About this experience

We start in our modern busses and reach the green landscapes from Bavarian state with the majestic Alps. The idyllic emerald green Lake Königssee is located in southeastern from the state Bavaria, in South of Germany. It lies at the foot of the famous Mount Watzmann in the heart of the Berchtesgaden Alpine National Park. In the relaxing crossing by electric boat to the idyllic island of St. Bartholomew, you will not only hear the impressive echo but you will also learn interesting facts about the mountain lake itself. The trip provides time for you to hike and enjoy the beautiful landscape as well. In the evening, just some minutes away from the lake, we visit the Berchtesgaden salt mine. It is in continuous operation since 1517. Dressed like in the old times of mining gear, you begin the exciting tour through the salt mountain by riding in on the mine train. To the highlights we count the miners’ slides, a raft ride across the subterranean “Mirror Lake,” and the Salt Cathedral.

Salt mines what an experience

The Salt Mines was a fabulous experience . You get dressed into the work overalls and then take the train onto the centre of the mine just like a salt miner . Listening to the history and how the miners worked was very interesting . I screamed very loudly going down the slide, but then I’m not very brave . The Salt Mines was the highlight of the day trip . Enjoyable lake cruise though a long line to return to the mainland waiting in the hot sun . I would recommend this tour to everyone .

Response from the operator: Thank you for your great feedback. We are delighted to hear that the salt mine was such a memorable highlight and that you enjoyed learning about its history and experiencing the miner’s train and slides. It’s also great to know that you enjoyed the lake cruise and would recommend the tour to others.

Gorgeous!

Very beautiful trip! The salt mines had diverse experiences, and the boat ride was gorgeous! The guide was very helpful, and sure none were left behind. The only complaint was that the actual boat ride was cramped and we had to wait in line for an hour, but that wasn't the fault of the tour. Overall a wonderful experience for a day!

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your lovely review! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the beautiful scenery, the varied experience at the Salt Mine, and the boat ride on Königssee. It's also wonderful to know that your guide took such good care of the group throughout the day. We appreciate your understanding regarding the crowds and waiting time for the boat, which are unfortunately outside our control, especially during the busy summer season. Thank you for choosing Gray Line Munich. We're very pleased that you had such a wonderful day!

From Munich Königssee Boat Ride and Berchtesgaden Salt Mine: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Munich.

How much does From Munich Königssee Boat Ride and Berchtesgaden Salt Mine cost?

+

Prices start at $29 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Munich usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does From Munich Königssee Boat Ride and Berchtesgaden Salt Mine take?

+

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Munich is not rushed.

Is From Munich Königssee Boat Ride and Berchtesgaden Salt Mine worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 45 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Munich, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule From Munich Königssee Boat Ride and Berchtesgaden Salt Mine?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is From Munich Königssee Boat Ride and Berchtesgaden Salt Mine suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book From Munich Königssee Boat Ride and Berchtesgaden Salt Mine?

+

Around 16 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Munich can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Munich and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does From Munich Königssee Boat Ride and Berchtesgaden Salt Mine start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Munich within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Munich?

+

On Outty we rank every Munich experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Munich Classic Bike Tour @ 11.30am with Surfers & beergarden stop, Guided Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site Tour with Train from Munich, Dachau Memorial Half-Day Tour from Munich (Early-Start). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Munich?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Munich?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
