Amazing personalized tour of Rome highlights
This tour was the highlight of our entire vacation. Elisabetta was an excellent guide, and personalized the day for our group. She included many extras such as the Pantheon, Trevi fountain and Vatican City. She arranged for us to have a local historian guide us through the colosseum and then met us afterwards and asked if we wanted to go for a meal. If you’ve never been to Rome and want a personalized tour in a small group - book with My Love Italy.

Outstanding guide and driver — but timing and headsets held it back
We took this tour as a family of three on the NCL Viva during our Mediterranean cruise, booking it through Marriott Cruise with Points. It ran about $1,000, so we went in with high expectations — and the result was a genuine mixed bag. First, the good. Our guide was excellent: knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about Rome. We toured the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Palatine palace grounds, and got to skip the line going into the Colosseum — which, on a hot, packed summer day in Rome, is worth its weight in gold. The group was small (an 8–10 passenger van), so it stayed personal. Our driver deserves special mention: on the way back, we had a little extra time, and he went slightly out of his way to drop us at the Vatican for a few minutes at St. Peter's Square for a quick photo op. That wasn't on the itinerary — it was a thoughtful bonus, and exactly the kind of touch that makes a trip memorable. Now the two things that dragged it down. Timing. The driver dropped us at the meeting point next to the Colosseum around 10:00, but our guide didn't arrive until roughly 11:30. We spent about an hour and a half standing on a street corner outside a shop in oppressive Rome heat, waiting. I understand building in a buffer for port-to-Rome traffic — and traffic was light that day, which we lucked out on — but a half-hour cushion is reasonable; an hour and a half of standing around is not. That one's on the tour company, and it looked like a communication breakdown between them and the guide. Headsets. We all wore headsets to hear the guide over Rome's massive summer crowds, but they only worked about 50% of the time. She was terrific, but we missed half of what she was teaching us simply because we couldn't hear her. There should be backup headsets on a tour at this price point. Bottom line: a mixed bag. The guide and driver were excellent, the skip-the-line access was a real plus, and the surprise Vatican stop was a nice extra — but the long wait and the spotty headsets took a real bite out of an expensive tour. If you're visiting Rome in summer (the busiest time, in the busiest tourist city in Italy), I'd still recommend a guided, skip-the-line tour — the lines are atrocious, and you do not want to wait in them. Just go in knowing the logistics here can be hit or miss.
