About this experience
Escape Bucharest for a full day in the heart of Transylvania — a journey through the Carpathian Mountains to three of Romania's most unforgettable places, with a passionate local guide. Your day begins at the Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Zarnesti, the largest brown bear sanctuary in the world. Spanning 69 hectares of forest, it is home to more than 90 bears rescued from captivity, now living freely. It is a moving experience and the most ethical sanctuary of its kind. Next, discover the legendary Bran Castle — known worldwide as Dracula's Castle. Perched dramatically on a cliff, this 14th-century fortress is steeped in medieval history and the myth of Bram Stoker's famous vampire. The day ends in Brasov, a beautifully preserved medieval Saxon town. Wander the cobbled old town, see the Council Square and the Black Church, and enjoy free time before the relaxed drive back to Bucharest.

An excellent day trip with Alex
I had a great time on this tour, and Alex was a big reason why. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. His driving was great, especially considering how much driving we did throughout the day, and I always felt comfortable. He knew a lot about the history and the different places we visited, but it never felt like you were just getting a scripted tour. He was happy to answer questions and had some great stories and information along the way. The music was also on point and made the long drives through Romania even better 😂. He even helped me track down some Visinata, which I really wanted and is normally more common in southern Romania. That was definitely a bonus and something I wouldn’t have found as easily on my own. The Bear Sanctuary, Bran Castle, and Brasov were all great, but having Alex as our guide made the entire day that much better. If you’re booking this tour, I definitely recommend asking for Alex. Great guide, great driver, and just an all-around good guy. 5/5!

An Amazing Day Exploring the Best of Transylvania
We had an absolutely fantastic day visiting the Libearty Bear Sanctuary, Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle) and Brașov. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Romania and a great combination of nature, history and sightseeing. The Bear Sanctuary was a wonderful and moving experience. It was lovely to see the rescued bears living in a large, natural environment and to learn about their individual stories and the important work being done to protect them. Bran Castle was fascinating and definitely worth visiting. We really enjoyed exploring the castle, learning about its history and, of course, hearing about its famous connection to Dracula and Vlad the Impaler. The surrounding scenery was beautiful too. We finished with time in Brașov, which is a gorgeous city with a lovely atmosphere. We enjoyed walking around the historic centre, admiring the colourful buildings and taking in the beautiful surroundings. Overall, it was a brilliant and memorable day trip and Alex our Guide was excellent. Each stop offered something completely different, and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting Romania.

Why this scores 83
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
From Bucharest: Bear Sanctuary, Dracula's Castle & Brasov: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bucharest.
How much does From Bucharest: Bear Sanctuary, Dracula's Castle & Brasov cost?
+
Prices start at $136 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bucharest usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does From Bucharest: Bear Sanctuary, Dracula's Castle & Brasov take?
+
Plan for about 11 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bucharest is not rushed.
Is From Bucharest: Bear Sanctuary, Dracula's Castle & Brasov worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 83 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 98 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bucharest, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule From Bucharest: Bear Sanctuary, Dracula's Castle & Brasov?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is From Bucharest: Bear Sanctuary, Dracula's Castle & Brasov suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 11-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book From Bucharest: Bear Sanctuary, Dracula's Castle & Brasov?
+
Around 34 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bucharest can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bucharest and add a light layer if any part of the 11-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does From Bucharest: Bear Sanctuary, Dracula's Castle & Brasov start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bucharest within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Bucharest?
+
On Outty we rank every Bucharest experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Real tour of Communism, Bucharest Highlights Walking Tour, Top Gear Road, Small-group max 7 pax with Pick-up, Transfăgărăşan. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Bucharest?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Bucharest?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
