Excellent birdwatching experience
Starting the tour in the Dutch canal, we saw many exciting species of birds, kingfishers, raptors, parrots and woodpeckers. Lots of monitor lizards and after getting out into the lagoon, water birds aplenty and monkeys in the trees. Highly recommended for any birdwatchers or nature lovers!

Great wildlife
We really enjoyed this trip. We were collected, on time, from our Negombo hotel - a bit of a bumpy trip but direct and safe. The guide was good and we saw a lot of different birds, incl kingfishers, some monkeys, water monitors. Part way through we moored up and some packet snacks and drink were provided. Improvements? A pre- printed identification sheet would be useful, especially for children

Fab trip! Exceeded expectations
I just had a quick stop in Negombo after flying in to Colombo. I was picked up on time by a lovely driver. This was a relaxing tour after a long day travelling. I only really wanted a boat trip and thought seeing some birds would be nice. We actually saw baby crocodiles and lots of monkeys too. Fab first day in Sri Lanka. The guide was very knowledgeable too.

Worth getting up early to...
Worth getting up early to catch the birds and in a very pleasant temperature May like to take something soft to sit on as the boat seats are very hard Very knowledgeable guide

Wonderful way to spend a few hours viewing birds and other wildlife along the wetlands of Negombo.
Wonderful boat trip through some backwaters near Negombo. From the meeting place on the old canal we headed slowly up the canal, stopping frequently to take photos of the varied wildlife. We continued into the lagoon for a shoreline route viewing many types of birds. I am not an experienced birder but our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful explaining the many different species.
Response from the operator: Dear Valued Guest, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed your boat trip through the wetlands of Negombo and found it to be a wonderful way to spend a few hours immersed in nature. It’s great to know that the slow journey through the canal and along the lagoon allowed for plenty of wildlife viewing and photography. We’re also pleased that our guide's knowledge and helpful explanations enhanced your appreciation of the many bird species, even as a non-experienced birder. Your kind feedback is truly appreciated, and we’re so glad we could be a part of your time in Sri Lanka. We hope to welcome you again for more peaceful and enriching nature experiences in the future. Why this scores 56
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Exclusive: Muthurajawela Bird Watching Tour with Transfers: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Colombo.
How much does Exclusive: Muthurajawela Bird Watching Tour with Transfers cost?
+
Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Colombo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Exclusive: Muthurajawela Bird Watching Tour with Transfers take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Colombo is not rushed.
Is Exclusive: Muthurajawela Bird Watching Tour with Transfers worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 18 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Colombo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Exclusive: Muthurajawela Bird Watching Tour with Transfers?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Exclusive: Muthurajawela Bird Watching Tour with Transfers suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Exclusive: Muthurajawela Bird Watching Tour with Transfers?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Colombo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Colombo and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Exclusive: Muthurajawela Bird Watching Tour with Transfers start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Colombo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Colombo?
+
On Outty we rank every Colombo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Flexi dates on all 5 to 7 days packages for car and English speaking driver, Sri Lanka Personal Tour Driver in private vehicle, 08 Nights in Magical Sri Lanka. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Colombo?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Colombo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
