Amazing Trip!!
We booked this charter for a very meaningful reason — to spread my dad’s ashes in Ketchikan — and Captain Scott could not have been more wonderful. From the start, communication was easy and seamless. He was incredibly responsive, accommodating, and understanding of our situation. He was completely open to customizing the day around what felt right for us and went above and beyond to make sure we had the experience we wanted. We also had such a great time out on the water. Captain Scott is genuinely one of the nicest people, and we loved chatting with him and hearing his stories. He made us feel comfortable right away, and it felt like we were spending the day with an old friend. We appreciated being able to bring our own snacks and drinks and make the boat our own for the day. We’re so grateful we chose this charter. Captain Scott helped us create such a special memory, and we can’t recommend him enough!

Go with another operator in the area
We went on the bears and whale watching tour with Scott the owner of Reel Alaska. We did not see any whales or bears but the worse part was Scott was rude to my family. He didn’t talk about Alaska or Ketchikan. He didn’t give any facts or commentary about the area. He didn’t tell us not to eat all his snacks. There were 5 of us on the tour and we ate 5 snacks. So imagine our surprise. Don’t waste your time or money on this tour or fishing. He also talked bad about everyone fishing in the area. Imagine our surprise at this behavior.

21/2 hour small boat cruise to view wildlife..
Kaylee was a great deck hand and our captain the best spotting baby humpbacks and seal lions. The eagle was fantastic and so close! Great value and experience!

Spectacular Experience with an Amazing Crew
Scott did an amazing job with our tour. We had the opportunity to see whales and go into Misty Fjord National Park. The boat is small yet comfortable with indoor room for the 6 people in my family, he communicated clearly throughout the whole process, and was VERY attentive to my family's needs. No guarantees that you will see all of this, but we had a chance to see a pod of orcas, eagles, porpoises. We didn't do the fishing, 10/10 regret not booking a fishing charter.

Why this scores 40
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Elite & Private Whales & Wildlife Excursion Ketchikan Alaska: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ketchikan.
How much does Elite & Private Whales & Wildlife Excursion Ketchikan Alaska cost?
+
Prices start at $3000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ketchikan usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Elite & Private Whales & Wildlife Excursion Ketchikan Alaska take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ketchikan is not rushed.
Is Elite & Private Whales & Wildlife Excursion Ketchikan Alaska worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 40 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.1/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Ketchikan, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Elite & Private Whales & Wildlife Excursion Ketchikan Alaska?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Elite & Private Whales & Wildlife Excursion Ketchikan Alaska suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Elite & Private Whales & Wildlife Excursion Ketchikan Alaska?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ketchikan can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ketchikan and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Elite & Private Whales & Wildlife Excursion Ketchikan Alaska start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ketchikan within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Ketchikan?
+
Ketchikan runs short, cruise-timed excursions: Misty Fjords floatplane flights, Tongass rainforest zip lines, totem park tours, crab feasts and wildlife boats up the Behm Canal. On Outty we rank every Ketchikan experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ketchikan Kayak Eco-Tour, Off the Beaten Path Ketchikan Photo Safari - 3 hr., Ketchikan Shore Excursion: Rainforest Canopy Ropes and Zipline Adventure Park. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Ketchikan?
+
May to September, matching the Alaska cruise season. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Ketchikan?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
