    Frustrating, confusing and extremely disappointing

While the treasure hunt sounded like the ultimate adventure it was anything but ! €300 in total for our party of 6 adults and 8 children (some of whom are over 12 years of age so needed to be booked as adults at a fee of €25/person) - €300 to walk around Dublin confused , frustrated and ultimately ripped off !!

Response from the operator: Hi there, Thank you for your feedback. I’m really sorry to hear that you did not enjoy our experience in Dublin! Our games are designed to be a fun and engaging challenge for a wide range of ages, and we’re proud that they consistently receive very positive feedback from families, groups, and teams who enjoy the mix of puzzles, exploration, and storytelling. That said, we understand that puzzle-based experiences aren’t for everyone, and if the clues aren’t clicking, it can feel frustrating. We always encourage teams to make use of the hint system during the game, which is there to help keep things flowing and enjoyable for all players. Best wishes, Mystery City Games Management

Saw parts of Dublin I wish I hadn’t

This was my husband’s 60th birthday treat. Had a wonderful time at Trinity College and a lovely lunch. This was booked for the afternoon. I was so disappointed. It was such a faff. There was a rucksack with clues in and you had to get a bit of string and spread it across a page. And while I don’t mind a good puzzle, I learnt that Dublin doesn’t have any bench to sit on and work things out. So you are trying to balance everything and write information down. But it was pouring with rain and really windy, so it was impossible. The ‘trail’ takes you through some rundown parts and not by anything of interest. Found St Patrick’s cathedral by accident, as I needed to find a seat and left the tour. The cathedral was closed and a clue was inside. We were warned about this but the ‘chat’ function decided to stop working at this point. Gave up and returned the equipment.

    It's a Mystery to Me...

I was very excited about this adventure, having experienced a similar activity called Treasure Trails in other cities. I was, unfortunately, quite disappointed with this 'adventure'. The backpack with the materials was poorly designed, making access to it tedious and frustrating. Having to buckle it up and re-buckle it to ensure nothing fell out as you explored from location to location was a nuisance; an easy zip backpack would have immensely improved the experience. On a practical level, the evidence box etc, although imaginative, was not conducive to an activity where one walks about a busy city. The clues were not well phrased, and there was little clarity in the instruction...much of it made little sense...but the BIGGEST issue was the link one had to use with the mobile. It constantly crashed, froze and malfunctioned, drawing out the activity only because you couldn't get to the next step due to its poor functioning. Although there was a 'quick fix' for this problem, clearly reported enough for it to be remarked upon IN the system, the fix didn't work, sending us back to the start of the game every crash despite following the instructions to prevent this from happening. This Mystery City game sadly elicits its own mystery for me...how does it stay in business? I wish Dublin had a Treasure Trails, which would have brought us to more sights and been much more enjoyable, without trying to figure out where it was safe to spend 5 minutes trying to open a buckle backpack to remove some evidence that could have creatively been made more accessible in a number of ways. I wish I could be more enthusiastic, but I spent a fair penny for little return. Will NOT be trying this in other locations, which is a pity. BUT...at least the weather was a delight. Had it been raining, I would have been so cross ...

    Fun day out

Really great day as a team day out activity. Great to see different places in Dublin and was a nice challenge. The location before the activity was very relaxing to shelter from the rain, and very helpful staff

    Amazing Afternoon!

This game was a lot of fun! You can discover new places in the city and try to figure out well thought out enigmas. You play with the monuments you see and it’s really a great way to visit a city! We highly recommend it!!

Dublin Treasure Hunt: The Case of the Missing Crown Jewels: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Dublin.

How much does Dublin Treasure Hunt: The Case of the Missing Crown Jewels cost?

    +

Prices start at $30 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Dublin usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Dublin Treasure Hunt: The Case of the Missing Crown Jewels take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Dublin is not rushed.

Is Dublin Treasure Hunt: The Case of the Missing Crown Jewels worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Dublin, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Dublin Treasure Hunt: The Case of the Missing Crown Jewels?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Dublin Treasure Hunt: The Case of the Missing Crown Jewels suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Dublin Treasure Hunt: The Case of the Missing Crown Jewels?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Dublin can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Dublin and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Dublin Treasure Hunt: The Case of the Missing Crown Jewels start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Dublin within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Dublin?

    +

On Outty we rank every Dublin experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Dublin to Cliffs of Moher, including Wild Atlantic Way and Galway, Dublin Highlights and Hidden Gems Guided Walking Tour, The Little Museum of Dublin Famous Guided Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Dublin?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Dublin?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
