Do not book this tour
We (couple) booked this private tour last minute (day prior) to Douro Valley for wine tasting and were grateful to be accommodated. The good: the driver was punctual and was able to pick us up from our hotel. Her English fluency was good and she was very friendly and approachable. The wine tasting at Croft Port was excellent with knowledgeable friendly staff and a tour of the beautiful property. The not-so-good: the driver asked us at the start which wineries we’d like to visit. We requested to taste table wine rather than port wines and she said “ok”. However, she took us to a port wine tasting (no table wine options). We recognize that the area had mostly port vineyards but this should have been made clearer and she could have informed us when we made the request for table wine. As mentioned, we ended up enjoying the port tasting but the communication and expectation setting could be better. The driver also got lost several times in the trip. She indicated that the error was with Google Maps, however we could see that she went around the same loop several times before stopping to recalibrate the navigation. This happened at least 3 times on the drive which lengthened the drive and left little time for lunch. For lunch, she could not locate the first place she wanted to take us to. At the second place, it was full with a long wait. She asked them if they could recommend another restaurant but was told all were busy and full due to time of day. On the way out of the town, we passed the first place and saw a queue outside the restaurant. It is unclear to us why a reservation was not made for our lunch in advance. Yes, we booked the tour the day before but there could have been a call ahead to restaurants while we were at the port tasting or some other method to find us a lunch spot. In the end, we decided to head back to Porto to bed dropped off at the center of the town for a late lunch. She also said she was going to call ahead to book us a table but she dropped us off at the restaurant without getting out or to check us in for the “reservation”. If some of the issues were due to us booking the tour last minute, we would have preferred to be warned that there could be issues with lunch or the tour company should reconsider accepting late bookings when they cannot guarantee the activities or experience can occur as expected. We have been on many private tours (including wine tastings) and found this by far to be the worst experience and value. It was essentially a very expensive car transfer as we paid for the wine tasting ourselves (not included in the “tour”) and had no lunch, as described. We would not recommend this to anyone, let alone at “private tours” prices.

Incredible Douro Valley tour
We had booked a Douro valley half day tour with Meridian4people. We were a group of 8 adults and 2 kids. We were extremely well taken care of by our tour guides starting with comfy vehicles, flexible itineraries for the kids, best food / wine recommendations. The guides were helpful, polite and pleasant. They made our experience very memorable.
