    What you'll see and do

    1. Cozumel

The afternoon begins in downtown Cozumel, where travelers will meet the team at the confirmed check-in location. Once the reservation has been verified and the group receives the first instructions, guests will continue toward the beach club portion of the experience. Transportation from the central meeting point to Playa Tortugas Beach Club is included, making this first step simple before the day shifts into beach time, snorkeling, and catamaran sailing.

      30 minutes here

    2. Before heading out on the water, travelers will spend time at Playa Tortugas Beach Club. This stop gives guests access to the facilities and a relaxed coastal setting while they wait for the catamaran departure. It is a comfortable way to begin the experience, with time to settle in, enjoy the surroundings, and get ready for the marine route. The catamaran is scheduled to depart at 2:00 PM, and the required transportation connection for boarding is included as part of the tour.

      120 minutes here

    3. Palancar Reef

The first snorkeling location is Palancar Reef, one of the best-known reef areas around Cozumel. With snorkeling equipment included, travelers can enter the clear Caribbean water and begin exploring the island’s marine scenery. This stop introduces the underwater part of the day, combining reef formations, tropical surroundings, and the excitement of snorkeling directly from the catamaran route.

      30 minutes here

    4. Columbia Reef

The next stop takes the group to Columbia Reef, another important snorkeling area in Cozumel. Travelers will have a second opportunity to enter the water and enjoy a different reef environment within the island’s famous marine landscape. After this snorkeling session, guests return to the catamaran, where the route continues with music, entertainment, drinks, and the lively onboard atmosphere that accompanies the journey between stops.

      30 minutes here

    5. The route then moves into a calmer and more scenic setting at El Cielo, one of Cozumel’s most iconic shallow-water locations. This area is known for its transparent turquoise water and the starfish that may be seen resting on the sandy bottom. After the reef stops, El Cielo offers a softer moment to enjoy the water, admire the scenery, and experience one of the most recognizable natural places on the island.

      30 minutes here

    6. The final marine visit is El Cielito, the sandbar area connected to El Cielo. Its shallow turquoise water, relaxed atmosphere, and possible ray sightings make it a peaceful closing point after snorkeling at the reefs. During this stop, travelers will receive the included snack: fish ceviche and one hot dog per person. Beverage service continues with margaritas, beer, bottled water, and soft drinks available on board.

      30 minutes here

    7. Cozumel

After the time at El Cielito, the catamaran begins the return toward the original departure area. Travelers can enjoy the final stretch on board with music, sea views, drinks, and the relaxed Caribbean feeling of the afternoon. The experience ends after a route that combines beach club access, two reef snorkeling stops, El Cielo, El Cielito, snacks, drinks, and time aboard the catamaran.

Illegal. The police should get involved.

Very bad experience – to be avoided We are very disappointed with this excursion. Contrary to what was advertised, we never saw the reefs and we were only taken to a public beach. In addition to the price paid on Viator, we had to pay $30 US in taxes per person, which was not clearly indicated. The worst part was the crew's behavior. After a snorkel mask was lost, they accused us of being responsible for it. They refused to dock until the situation was resolved, which made us feel like we were being held against our will. Their attitude was extremely pushy, aggressive, and intimidating. I absolutely do not recommend this excursion.

    not exactly as advertised

first, the fine print is misleading: the extra 500 peso dock tax is NOT included. the picture/description is also misleading: there is no shade on the second level, there is no slide, and there was WAY more than 35 people. the ‘included’ snorkeling equipment does not include fins! which makes snorkeling and getting back to the boat when they are screaming at you much harder! had to wait in line at least 15 mins aboard for a gross hot dog (plus another 10 mins for ketchup.) the food and drinks are served out of plastic cups and plates that taste like they obviously were just rinsed off in seawater. the only reason i didn’t give 1 star was because the last stop el cielo beach was absolutely beautiful.

Discovering El Cielo Reef by Double Decker Catamaran: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cozumel.

How much does Discovering El Cielo Reef by Double Decker Catamaran cost?

    +

Prices start at $35 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cozumel usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Discovering El Cielo Reef by Double Decker Catamaran take?

    +

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cozumel is not rushed.

Is Discovering El Cielo Reef by Double Decker Catamaran worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (1.5/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cozumel, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Discovering El Cielo Reef by Double Decker Catamaran?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Discovering El Cielo Reef by Double Decker Catamaran suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Discovering El Cielo Reef by Double Decker Catamaran?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cozumel can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cozumel and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Discovering El Cielo Reef by Double Decker Catamaran start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cozumel within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cozumel?

    +

On Outty we rank every Cozumel experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jade Caverns and Mayan Village Cozumel ATV TOUR, Buggy, Beach & Snorkel Blast, ATV 4×4+Cenote+Snorkeling+Beach Club+ Lunch+Sabores de Cozumel. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cozumel?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cozumel?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
