About this experience
Step back in time and explore the historic coastal village of Howth, where centuries of history, legend and maritime life come together. This guided walk begins in lively Howth Harbour, home to colourful fishing boats, famous seafood shops and the harbour’s curious seals. Along the pier you’ll discover the story behind King George IV’s footprints, left here during his memorable visit in 1821. We then wander through the charming streets of the old village before entering the beautiful Howth Castle Estate, home to the St Lawrence family for over 800 years. Hidden within the estate lies Aideen’s Grave, an ancient tomb linked to Irish mythology and the legendary love story of Aideen and the warrior Oscar. The journey continues to the historic Martello Tower, built during the Napoleonic Wars to defend Dublin Bay, where spectacular views stretch across the sea to Ireland’s Eye, an island rich in wildlife, ruins and local legend.

Explore Howth’s ancient village, castle estate, and stunning coast with a passionate guide who makes history come alive.
I can honestly say this was one of the highlights of my time in Ireland. Mark was an amazing guide who made every part of the walk feel personal and engaging. Instead of just repeating history, he shared stories, local knowledge, and little details that made you feel connected to the place and the people who have lived there for generations. You could tell how much he genuinely loves Howth and wants others to appreciate it too. His passion was contagious, and his sense of humor kept everyone laughing along the way. The conversation flowed naturally, and it felt more like exploring with a knowledgeable friend than being on a tour. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking (coastal cliffs, hidden paths, ancient ruins, and views that made us stop every few minutes just to take it all in). I left with a much deeper appreciation for Ireland’s history and natural beauty. If you want more than a typical tourist experience and are happy to spend a few hours walking and exploring, I couldn’t recommend this tour enough. It’s authentic, memorable, and the kind of experience that stays with you long after you leave.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for such an incredible review! It means the world to hear that this was one of the highlights of your time in Ireland. We're delighted you enjoyed the stories, local history, and the little details that make Howth such a special place. Creating an experience that feels personal and relaxed—more like exploring with a local friend than joining a traditional tour—is exactly what we strive for, so it's wonderful to know that came across. We're also so glad the spectacular coastal scenery and hidden corners of Howth left such a lasting impression. Thank you for your generous recommendation, and we truly hope to welcome you back for another adventure the next time you're in Ireland! 🍻🐾

Best Tour in Ireland - Scenic and Interesting
It’s so easy to get to Howth from Dublin’s city center and considering how beautiful it is, it is absolutely necessary to go there if you’re ever in Dublin! Missy and Mark were the perfect tour guides. Missy knew where exactly all the great places to go were and Mark was extremely knowledgeable and really had a passion and enthusiasm for Howth that really showed! I learned so much and had a fantastic time. This was easily my favorite tours that I went on when I was in Ireland! Mark generates a video at the end that shows a map of you exactly where you went and has pictures and videos. Missy was a great dog model and fun to pose with. Well worth it!
Response from the operator: Hi Sarah, Thanks for the amazing review and for booking the Ancient Village Adventure, it was great meeting you. Missy is definitely a highlight of each tour and the video adds a cherry on top. Thanks Mark & Missy

Seals, a workout, craic, and a good dog
I took the shorter afternoon walking tour and was the only traveler on this early spring day. Mark took me around Howth's beautiful views, tirelessly joking and telling stories and chatting about his life in Howth. Lovely dog Missy accompanied us, and though she only has eyes for Mark she was happy to chase a few balls thrown by me. Mark is personable, smart, and delightful company. I'm delighted I took this tour on a whim and think it was one of the best things I did in Ireland. Highly recommend him and Missy!

Why this scores 65
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Discover Howth Castle Estate and Coastal Fishing Village: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Dublin.
How much does Discover Howth Castle Estate and Coastal Fishing Village cost?
+
Prices start at $36 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Dublin usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Discover Howth Castle Estate and Coastal Fishing Village take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Dublin is not rushed.
Is Discover Howth Castle Estate and Coastal Fishing Village worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Dublin, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Discover Howth Castle Estate and Coastal Fishing Village?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Discover Howth Castle Estate and Coastal Fishing Village suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Discover Howth Castle Estate and Coastal Fishing Village?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Dublin can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Dublin and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Discover Howth Castle Estate and Coastal Fishing Village start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Dublin within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Dublin?
+
On Outty we rank every Dublin experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Dublin to Cliffs of Moher, including Wild Atlantic Way and Galway, Dublin Highlights and Hidden Gems Guided Walking Tour, The Little Museum of Dublin Famous Guided Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Dublin?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Dublin?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
