    About this experience

We start the day driving to the Slanic Salt Mine. This salt mine, located in a wonderful environment was opened for the first time in 1938 and in order to reach it we will go 400 meters down. The microclimate inside makes it one of the favorite places for both locals and travelers. Also, having a constant temperature inside of never more than 54 degrees Fahrenhei ( 12 degrees Celsius) is a preferred place in a hot summer. Our next stop will be a unique and also an odd place: the mud volcanoes. This small volcanoes stand just a few meters above ground and they exist just because of a unique combination of water and natural gases creating a moon like terrain. Next stop is Ciolanu Monastery, well known for its late 19th century icons painted by famous artist Tatarascu. Drive back to your hotel in the late afternoon.

    SCAMMER!!!!!!!

It is a scammer!!! We will NOT recommend this tour operator to anyone!! We had a private tour Day Trip to Slanic Salt Mine with Eastern European Experience (Monday, 20 Oct). We had a very terrible experience as followed: 1) Slanic Salt Mine is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. We only realised that when we arrived. As a tourist, we trusted the tour operator but turned out we were cheated and we found they are still selling this tour even now!!! This is a seious fraud!!! 2) This is a private tour. And as per the tour description, it would provide a licensed private guide. However, we only got the pickup and drop-off service at all. No guide throughout the tour. 3) As per the tour description, the tour fee £155 per person covered entrance fees for all 3 mentioned sites. But we needed to pay by ourselves for the entry tickets of the mud volcanoes site. We also didn't see any entry fee required at the monastery (but the tour claimed the tour fee included that?!). And they have charged us for the entry fee of the salt mine which we did not have the visit. 4) As per the tour description, they would provide us bottled water but none. We wanted to emphasize that we paid for this tour specifically for the salt mine. We eventually got nothing. What's more disappointing was that we called the tour operator during the tour but we were only told "let's see what exactly we can do". After that, we DO NOT hear anything from them anymore despite we have called and texted them for the subsequent follow-ups. Actually, they have even declined my calls. It is truly a dishonest business!! We should not have been suffered from that and also have wasted a whole day (on that day) plus additional time in all the follow-up. We take this matter seriously and especially after being ignored by the tour operator even though we tried to communicate with them, realising it is actually a fraudulent tour. This business should be investigated and also been banned from selling this tour to protect other customers.

Excellent tour. Definitely make the time for it.

We had such a great time on this tour. It's a lot of driving, but you see some incredible Romanian countryside and small towns. The Mud Volcano's were like nothing we had ever seen before, and the Salt Mine is spectacular. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, and our driver made us feel very comfortable. This is a tour definitely worth setting aside a day for.

Day Trip to Slanic Salt Mine: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bucharest.

How much does Day Trip to Slanic Salt Mine cost?

    +

Prices start at $207 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bucharest usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Day Trip to Slanic Salt Mine take?

    +

Plan for about 11 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bucharest is not rushed.

Is Day Trip to Slanic Salt Mine worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.7/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bucharest, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Day Trip to Slanic Salt Mine?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Day Trip to Slanic Salt Mine suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 11-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Day Trip to Slanic Salt Mine?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bucharest can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bucharest and add a light layer if any part of the 11-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Day Trip to Slanic Salt Mine start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bucharest within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Bucharest?

    +

On Outty we rank every Bucharest experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Real tour of Communism, Bucharest Highlights Walking Tour, Top Gear Road, Small-group max 7 pax with Pick-up, Transfăgărăşan. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Bucharest?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Bucharest?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
