What you get
About this experience
Athens’ historic Plaka may be famous for its ancient monuments, but beyond the tourist crowds lies a neighborhood where centuries of Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman history still shape everyday life – especially its food. On this tour, we’ll explore the Plaka’s culinary gems while discovering how this ancient district helped shape modern Athens. We’ll begin at one of the city’s finest bakeries, tasting handmade specialties with roots stretching back centuries, before wandering through the Plaka’s quieter backstreets and sampling Greek olive oils at a small specialty deli. We’ll continue through picturesque Anafiotika, stopping for regional products and classic meatballs in cumin-scented tomato sauce. Near Syntagma, we’ll taste family-made Greek kebab and visit a traditional workers’ canteen where dishes are chosen straight from the kitchen pots. Finally, we’ll finish at one of Athens’ oldest patisseries with classic desserts inspired by recipes from Hydra.

Amazing experience for the entire family!
Absolutely loved the food choices, history, and culture overview. Our guide (Golden) was very thoughtful in asking what we had done, eaten, and enjoyed to make sure she didn't replicate our earlier experiences. She was very patient with our two young kids and worked with us at our pace to enjoy the sights, sounds, and flavors of Athens. Would highly recommend!

Evening of food, wine and Constantine!
We had our food walking tour with Constantine back in June. It was just my husband and I it was a very personal experience. Constantine wasa pleasure to spend the evening with going around Athens. The food we had was excellent. I was a little leery of trying Greek yogurt, it was a sheep‘s milk yogurt. However, it was the best yogurt I have ever had in my whole life and nothing like the Greek yogurt here in the United States olive oil tasting was awesome! Everything was great. Don’t hesitate to book your tour today.
Response from the operator: Thank you for the wonderful review of your evening exploring Athens. We are thrilled you loved the traditional sheep's milk yogurt and olive oil, as embracing these authentic flavors helps support the unsung heroes of the kitchen who preserve these vital culinary crafts. We deeply appreciate your commitment to honest tourism and hope to share more daily life stories with you on a future walk.

Culinary Backstreets of Plaka - Athens Food Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.
How much does Culinary Backstreets of Plaka - Athens Food Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Culinary Backstreets of Plaka - Athens Food Tour take?
+
Plan for about 5.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.
Is Culinary Backstreets of Plaka - Athens Food Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 82 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 226 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Culinary Backstreets of Plaka - Athens Food Tour?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Culinary Backstreets of Plaka - Athens Food Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Culinary Backstreets of Plaka - Athens Food Tour?
+
Around 79 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 5.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Culinary Backstreets of Plaka - Athens Food Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Athens?
+
On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Athens?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Athens?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
