Hard to find meet up place
Could not find meeting place. No taxi driver knew where it was and it was not the same address and name as on the booking. I walked all over looking. For over an hour Disappointing for sure. My luck with Viator is about 50/50. I won’t book again

Untrustworthy Tour
We purchased our tickets online a few days before the tour. We arrived at 9:55 to the location according to GPS. There was absolutely no tour group waiting, no restaurant to meet the guide, no white flag. We were in the exact right place according to the directions but were never able to find the group. Another couple arrived too with the same instructions. The 4 of us looked everywhere to find the group over the next 30 minutes. We spent over $100 for the tour we were never able to take. Customer service with Viator was unhelpful, telling us that we should have called within 10 minutes of not finding the group. It was an incredibly disappointing experience. I'm still not convinced there ever was a tour...it seemed like a scam.
Response from the operator: "There was absolutely no tour group waiting, no restaurant to meet the guide, no white flag! ---what can I say, you definitely were not at the correct location, the guide and the group might have left already, meaning you did not arrive at 9:55, but after 10:00, our onsite staff member with the flag might have moved more in the shadow, since she did stayed another 10 minutes, BUT that the restaurant was moved to a different location, I find it hard to believe 🤷🏼♀️

Very unhappy
Going up a hill my wife got dizzy and almost fainted We stopped for her to rest Guide got very rude and said that we needed to continue Explained to her that she needed to cool down Said she couldn’t continue unless we turned in our head sets and left the group. We gave her the sets and said we would continue on our own. She became even more upset I explained I did it want to continue the conversation and for her take her group on. She then started telling various location we could meet Explained that we didn’t want to work with due to Her attitude and for her to continue with her group
Response from the operator: Hello, we are very thankful for your feedback, but you forgot to leave out one very important detail...that the conversation between you and the guide was happening while you were screaming and cursing her in front of everyone witnessing, Like you said, she actually tried to find a way for you to meet up after your wife had gathered her strength

Good but less than expected.
The tour of the colosseum was very basic. I had hoped for the cost it would have included more. The meeting location was at a closed restaurant . A specific address would have been helpful in giving directions to the taxi. It was overall good.

Coliseum tour
We absolutely recommend taking this guided tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable and made the excursion enjoyable. We went on a very hot day but our guide kept us all engaged and kept us moving along the way while we learned so much. Worth having a tour to see this historic sight.

Why this scores 42
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Colosseum and Ancient Rome Guided Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Colosseum and Ancient Rome Guided Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $10 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Colosseum and Ancient Rome Guided Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Colosseum and Ancient Rome Guided Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 42 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.4/5 across 16 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Colosseum and Ancient Rome Guided Tour?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Colosseum and Ancient Rome Guided Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Colosseum and Ancient Rome Guided Tour?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Colosseum and Ancient Rome Guided Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
