About this experience

Highlights: Neve Shalom Synagogue and Museum Galata Tower Doğan Apartments 4. Crimea Church Workshop (Wood Carving ) Galip Dede Shopping Street Lunch and Coffee Break Spice Bazaar The journey begins at and runs through the Magnifica Comunita di Galata, the birthplace of Istanbul's modern part. Once a Latin colony near ancient Constantinopolis, just across the Golden Horn, later settling for foreign missions to the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Republic, Galata is often referred to as Europe within Istanbul and still boasts traces of different civilizations. The district 'Galata' is like an undiscovered treasure within this context. In addition to historical monuments, it harbors a delightful and colorful lifestyle. The impressive narrow streets host colorful and historical houses, unique boutique cafés, buskers, art galleries, and small souvenir shops, making this district special.

What you'll see and do

  1. Neve Shalom Synagogue

The tour starts at Neve Shalom synagogue in Galata. The central and largest Sephardic synagogue Neve Shalom ('Oasis of peace' or 'Valley of peace'), is a synagogue that was built to serve the growing Jewish population in the Galata neighborhood. Visiting the museum allows you to see some parts of the synagogue from the window of the museum. While you are visiting the museum, you are visiting the synagogue simultaneously. The visit gives essential insight into the great culture of Sephardic Jews, as well as their ties with and contributions to Turkish culture through the centuries.

  2. Galata Tower

Then we pass on to the Galata Tower. Galata Tower is one of the highest and oldest towers of İstanbul at 63 meters, and the Genoese colony was built in the 14th century as part of the defense wall. We go up to the tower's top floor and enjoy the great panoramic view of the old town, the Bosphorus, and the Golden Horn. Because it is one of Istanbul's highest towers, you have a great chance to have one of the best photos of the city. You can also testify to where the first Turk flew from Galata Tower to Asia-Üsküdar. After the joyous viewing, we head inside the tower. Here you can enjoy having your picture taken with original Ottoman garments for a great memory.

  3. Misir Carsisi

The Egyptian (Spice) Bazaar will be the next and the last, but not the last stop. We will pass from the historical Galata Bridge from Galata to Eminönü (the location is 20 min. walking distance, or a taxi might be used) to reach there. There is a shared brief in the global community of the card game Bridge that the Galata Bridge inspired the game's name. The spice market itself has approximately 100 shops inside. As soon as you enter, you get the smell of various spices. Besides spices, you can find souvenir shops, jewelry stores, scarves, nuts, Turkish desserts, delights, natural oils, dried fruits, Turkish coffee, tea, etc., brought from their origins. Finding different types of fresh, traditional goods in one mystical, authentic, and historical bazaar is why the locals and foreigners prefer the spice market.

City of Civilizations Galata Tour Private: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Istanbul.

How much does City of Civilizations Galata Tour Private cost?

+

Prices start at $400 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Istanbul usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does City of Civilizations Galata Tour Private take?

+

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Istanbul is not rushed.

Is City of Civilizations Galata Tour Private worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 46 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (0/5 across 0 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Istanbul, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule City of Civilizations Galata Tour Private?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is City of Civilizations Galata Tour Private suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book City of Civilizations Galata Tour Private?

+

Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Istanbul can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Istanbul and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does City of Civilizations Galata Tour Private start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Istanbul within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Istanbul?

+

On Outty we rank every Istanbul experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Istanbul 1, 2 or 3-Day Private Guided Istanbul Tour, Istanbul Luxury Bosphorus Yacht Cruise with Asian Side Stop, ISTANBUL BEST: Iconic Landmarks Full Day PRIVATE Guided City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Istanbul?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Istanbul?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
