Opened in 2016, the Chandragiri Cable Car has quickly become one of the most popular places to visit in the Kathmandu Valley. And it’s no wonder as the view from Chandragiri Hill is absolutely fabulous.  The Chandragiri Cable Car tour begins in the morning when a private car with your guide picks you up at your hotel. The journey takes you across to the southwestern side of the Valley where you board the Chandragiri Cable Car. It’s an easy trip up to the top, riding high above the lush jungle below.  From the top, be sure to enjoy lunch (not included in price). 2. Chandragiri Hills

The Chandragiri Cable Car is one of the finest cable car attractions in this part of the world. Completed in 2016, the Chandragiri Cable Car takes you to the top of Chandragiri Hill (elevation 2,551 meters/8,366 ft). It is one of the highest points on the high hills surrounding the Kathmandu Valley. The journey begins when your guide picks you up at your hotel and takes you by private vehicle to the village where the cable car station is. It’s a pleasant trip in the morning as you see the various neighborhoods of Kathmandu. Once you board the cable car, it is a wonderful journey as the gondola glides upwards over dense jungles below. Look out of the large glass windows on all four sides and you will see wonderful views of the Kathmandu Valley. As the car glides upwards, more and more of the snowcapped peaks of the Himalayas become visible. Once you reach the top, it’s just a very short walk to the summit. On top is a sacred Hindu temple where you can watch devotees doing puja (worship). Chandragiri is famous in Hindu circles for its sacredness, and every day Hindu pilgrims make the pilgrimage to the top. There are often activities taking place at the amphitheater where sometimes you can sit and take in a free program. Also on top is a wonderful restaurant with fabulous food to be enjoyed while gazing about at the high, snowcapped peaks of the mighty Himalayas. When it comes to mountain views, Chandragiri is second to none. On clear days, you can see five of the 14 highest peaks in the world! Mt. Everest is oftentimes quite visible on clear days from on top of Chandragiri. The ranges of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Langtang are equally visible. Following lunch, it’s another pleasant journey down the mountain and back to the bottom station where your car is waiting to take you back to your hotel. This is a half-day trip that can easily be combined with other sightseeing trips in the Kathmandu Valley. Whatever time you may have in Nepal, no one should miss the opportunity to take the Chandragiri Cable Car Tour. Your tour will be approx 4 hrs to and from the hotel.

Ask for Ananta if you want a great guide experience

This was a really nice tour. The weather was iffy at first but eventually came through and we got to see everything we wanted. But to be honest, the best part of the experience was the guide who made it by far the best tour we've had so far. Ananta is very knowledgeable and friendly. His stories and the experiences he shared with us really took our tour a step up. If you have a choice of guide, make sure you ask for Ananta, you won't regret it.

Response from the operator: Hi Tania, Thank you for choosing to experience Kathmandu with us! We're delighted to hear that our guide, Anant, provided you with excellent service and valuable insights about your trip. We truly appreciate your support and look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Wishing you a wonderful time ahead. Namaste!

Nice!

We’ll set up. Modern equipment nice ride up and down. View should be spectacular but we went rainy day (don’t do that). We ride zip line. Only 30 seconds for long one so very short but fun. Cost 800 rupees (@7$) each. Beer garden so so but dirty/moldy furniture (see photo). Probably a must on clear days!

Response from the operator: Hi Kevin, Thank you for the feedback and love to see you next time in Nepal. Have a great time ahead. Namaste!

Great experience!

Wonderful experience going up to Chandragiri Hills with Shanti, our tour guide. The cable car ride was smooth. The skies were not clear on the day we went but we still had a great time and beautiful views of the city and temple. Shanti was great! Friendly, knowledgeable, and fun. Would recommend.

Response from the operator: Hi Eman, Thank you very much for taking service with us and sharing your feedback here. Love to see you again in Nepal Himalayas for longer holiday and plz do remember us for great adventure here.

Our guide Pankaj was fantastic. He spoke many languages and was able to explain to us important cultural and historical significance of what we were seeing. I’d highly recommend him as a guide on this tour.

Response from the operator: Dear Michelle, We sincerely appreciate your patronage and are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the service provided by our guide, Pankaj, and found his information about the trip helpful. We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to serve you again, perhaps for longer holidays in the future. Your continued support would be greatly appreciated.

Highly recommended as a starter / light activity

We did this tour on our first day in Kathmandu after arriving quite late the night before. We purposely picked this as we felt that the program is not too early & heavy for the first day. We were met by our guide Sarita at the hotel and we proceeded directly to the Cable Car station, about 40 mins from the center of the city. Once we reached the top of the Chandragiri hill we were able to see a large part of the Kathmandu valley and we were lucky enough that the sky was pretty clear which enabled us to spot a number of the Himalaya’s peak from a distance. The temple on the hill top has an important historical background as well. Overall, the activity was worthwhile as an intro to Kathmandu and recommended if you are looking for a light activity for half a day. We were great full to have Sarita assigned as our guide as she speaks very good english and very knowledgeable about everythingNepal & Kathmandu. Highly recommended to request for the service should you engage a tour with this provider.

Response from the operator: Dear Adi, We extend our heartfelt gratitude for choosing Himalayan Advisor for your trip booking. We are delighted to hear that our guide, Sarita, provided you with excellent service and insightful information during your Chandragiri tour in Kathmandu. Your positive review is greatly appreciated. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Chandragiri Cable Car Tour - Family Tours in Kathmandu: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.

How much does Chandragiri Cable Car Tour - Family Tours in Kathmandu cost?

+

Prices start at $75 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Chandragiri Cable Car Tour - Family Tours in Kathmandu take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.

Is Chandragiri Cable Car Tour - Family Tours in Kathmandu worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Chandragiri Cable Car Tour - Family Tours in Kathmandu?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Chandragiri Cable Car Tour - Family Tours in Kathmandu suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Chandragiri Cable Car Tour - Family Tours in Kathmandu?

+

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Chandragiri Cable Car Tour - Family Tours in Kathmandu start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?

+

On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour | UNESCO World Heritage sites, Classic Everest Base Camp Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kathmandu?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
