Great and happy again
Great tour, the Cathedral Caves is too beautiful, great way, there was enough time to view the lockout and the Hot Beach was just fun. I found the tips of our guide as a local, what you can do in Auckland, valuable, that helped me organize the next few days. Otherwise good info, not too much or too little, dosed just right. I can recommend the tour ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars
Response from the operator: Thanks so much for the kind words! I’m really glad you enjoyed Cathedral Caves and had fun at Hot Water Beach—those are always highlights. It’s great to hear the pace of the day and the info felt just right, and I’m especially happy the local tips helped you plan the rest of your time in Auckland. Really appreciate you recommending the tour and taking the time to share this.

Fabulous trip!
Phenomenal experience every step of the way. Aaron was a great guide.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for that—“phenomenal” is amazing to hear! I’m really glad everything felt smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. Aaron will be stoked to hear your feedback too—he puts a lot into making sure each trip is a great experience, so it means a lot when that comes through. Really appreciate you taking the time to share this, and hope we get to have you back again sometime!

Great service but disappointing experience
Service (pick up/driver/concern for clients) was exceptional unfortunately the description of the trip experience was not clear. This trip is all about beaches and going in the water which was not clear to myself nor several others of my trip. Water attire and shoes should be emphasized. In addition the physical effort is described as moderate-it was actually quite demanding. I was able to opt for (at additional expense) a boat transfer to the cave. The whole trip was not worth the 5:45 pickup and 13 hours in the van. My advice is:pick a different trip unless you plan to swim.
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your feedback — we really appreciate it. We always aim to provide tour descriptions that are as accurate and detailed as possible, and we consistently work to improve them. That said, many guests also do their own research before joining, and a lot of experiences come down to individual preferences. Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach are very well-known for their beaches and water activities, and the walk to Cathedral Cove is classified as “moderate” by New Zealand standards, though we understand it can feel more demanding depending on fitness levels. We’re glad you found the service, pick-up, and driver attention to be exceptional. We also appreciate your note about water attire and footwear — that’s very helpful, and we’ll review how we can make that clearer in the tour description for future guests. This is a very popular tour because many guests truly love the combination of beaches, swimming, and the unique experiences along the way, but we understand it’s not for everyone. Thank you again for your thoughtful comments — they help us make the experience better for everyone.

Good tour
It was a great day/experience. The Cathedral Cove walk is very challenging and proper footwear would be best. I wish this would have been specified in the description of the tour. However, with that being said, we were told that is a boat that can be used for a price. The beach was well worth the hike. (We took the boat back.) The hot beach was amazing and very enjoyable.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing this! We’re so glad you had a great day and enjoyed the experience. Cathedral Cove is definitely a bit of an adventure to get to, but it sounds like you made the most of it — and taking the boat back was a smart move! Once you’re standing on that beach, it really does feel worth every step. And Hot Water Beach is always such a fun highlight — there’s nothing quite like relaxing in your own little natural spa. We really appreciate you joining us and hope we get to see you back again someday.

The tour was great and our guide Doug did an excellent job. He is an amazing person and a fantastic guide: very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional throughout the whole experience. He made everything smooth and enjoyable!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to share this. Doug truly is an incredible part of our team, and it means a lot to hear how much you appreciated his knowledge, professionalism, and friendly approach. He puts a lot of heart into every tour, and we’re so glad that came through in your experience. I’ll be sure to pass along your kind words — they’ll mean the world to him. We’re grateful you chose to adventure with us!

Why this scores 66
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Cathedral Cove & Coromandel Private Experience from Auckland: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Auckland.
How much does Cathedral Cove & Coromandel Private Experience from Auckland cost?
+
Prices start at $200 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Auckland usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Cathedral Cove & Coromandel Private Experience from Auckland take?
+
Plan for about 11 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Auckland is not rushed.
Is Cathedral Cove & Coromandel Private Experience from Auckland worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Auckland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Cathedral Cove & Coromandel Private Experience from Auckland?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Cathedral Cove & Coromandel Private Experience from Auckland suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 11-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Cathedral Cove & Coromandel Private Experience from Auckland?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Auckland can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Auckland and add a light layer if any part of the 11-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Cathedral Cove & Coromandel Private Experience from Auckland start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Auckland within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Auckland?
+
On Outty we rank every Auckland experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Day Trip from Auckland incl lunch, Hobbiton Movie Set Small Group Tour with Cheeky Kiwi Travel, Hobbiton & Waitomo Glowworm Caves Tour with Lunch from Auckland. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Auckland?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Auckland?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
