Great experience in Cathedral Cove and hot water beach
The tour guide was incredibly friendly! Along the way, he shared so much about New Zealand’s scenery and chatted with us, making the whole trip very smooth and enjoyable. Before the tour started, we had a lot of questions, and we really appreciate his patience in answering them all.For the morning pickup, our guide, David, arrived exactly on time. He was extremely thoughtful, helping us on and off the vehicle. He also provided us with morning snacks and drinking water, and took the time to carefully introduce the vehicle's medical supplies and emergency exits, which made us feel very safe. Once we arrived at the attraction, David led us to Cathedral Cove. He is clearly very experienced, patiently guiding us along the way with very clear instructions. He even shared great local tips, like where to find the hidden waterfall and the best time to walk through the beach, allowing us to fully enjoy the entire spot. The lunch was fantastic and abundant! It included chocolate cake, chips, chicken wraps, apples, and juice, which perfectly catered to everyone's needs. At Hot Water Beach, David even helped us dig a huge hole so we could truly experience the uniqueness of the hot springs.David is incredibly knowledgeable, clear in his explanations, humorous, and deeply kind. He is an absolute 10/10 tour guide. Thank you for giving us such a wonderful and memorable day!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review. Reading your kind words truly means a lot to us. We're so happy to hear that you had such an enjoyable day with David. He genuinely loves sharing New Zealand with our guests, and it's wonderful to know that his stories about the scenery, local knowledge, and friendly conversations helped make the journey just as memorable as the destinations themselves. We're also glad you felt well looked after from the very beginning. David always tries to make sure everyone feels comfortable and confident before setting off, whether that's answering questions before the tour, providing snacks and water, or taking the time to go over the vehicle's safety features. It's great to hear those little details made a difference. Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach are two of our favourite places to visit, and we're delighted that David was able to share some of the local tips that helped you experience them in a special way. Finding the hidden waterfall, timing the walk across the beach, and, of course, digging the perfect hot pool are all part of creating a fun and memorable day. We're pleased you enjoyed the lunch as well! After a morning of exploring, it's always nice to relax and recharge with a good meal before heading off to the next stop. We'll be sure to pass your lovely comments on to David. He'll be thrilled to know his knowledge, sense of humour, and genuine care made such a positive impression. Thank you again for choosing to explore with us. It was a pleasure having you on tour, and we hope to welcome you back for another New Zealand adventure in the future.

Why this scores 80
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Cathedral Cove & Hot Water Beach with Lunch from Auckland: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Auckland.
How much does Cathedral Cove & Hot Water Beach with Lunch from Auckland cost?
+
Prices start at $139 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Auckland usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Cathedral Cove & Hot Water Beach with Lunch from Auckland take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Auckland is not rushed.
Is Cathedral Cove & Hot Water Beach with Lunch from Auckland worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 75 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Auckland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Cathedral Cove & Hot Water Beach with Lunch from Auckland?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Cathedral Cove & Hot Water Beach with Lunch from Auckland suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Cathedral Cove & Hot Water Beach with Lunch from Auckland?
+
Around 26 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Auckland can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Auckland and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Cathedral Cove & Hot Water Beach with Lunch from Auckland start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Auckland within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Auckland?
+
On Outty we rank every Auckland experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Day Trip from Auckland incl lunch, Hobbiton Movie Set Small Group Tour with Cheeky Kiwi Travel, Hobbiton & Waitomo Glowworm Caves Tour with Lunch from Auckland. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Auckland?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Auckland?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
