Not worth the effort
Be prepared for a long day if coming from anywhere but Cancun - in which case you have to book travel separately. Private transportation would be better because they jam pack you into a van for a 2-3 hour ride. On the "catamaran" (no sails) you'll have a party boat experience with mediocre beverages and at least one creepy boat staff who kept bothering my daughter. The ride to Isla Mujeres is beautiful and the sea if real colored and clear. Once there we had a buffet that was not to our liking and spent time at the beach resort where we could only wade in about 25 yards. Boat guide said no snorkeling - which was news to us because we booked specifically for that reason. No explanation given. Then we went to the town of Isla Mujeres, which is bustling and very touristy. With the help of our boat guide we rented a golf cart and went to Punta Sur lighthouse. The golf cart exploration was fun until we returned to our cart to find it missing. Thankfully the company sent someone with a replacement. Turns out someone accidentally took our cart - without the key I'm not sure how that happened. After the tour we contacted Viator to find out about the snorkeling and were told that the harbor master issued an advisory against snorkeling due to weather - which was fine and we saw other boats doing it. No refund from Viator though so beware that if you book for this you may not get advanced notice that it's cancelled and no refund will be given. Overall this trip was not worth the effort.
