    Horrible Experience

If I could give this 0 stars I would. The owner operator was unprofessional, disrespectful and rude because a tourist was asking questions about the tour. I tried to ask about the length of drive and the snorkeling part and was basically told read the listing which didn’t provide the information I wanted. The boat was unorganized and overcrowded with barely enough room for people to sit. The snorkeling experience was the absolute worst I have ever had. A 1.5 hr drive, then a 45 minute boat ride to have 20 minutes in the water. The equipment was old and broken. They didn’t instruct people how to do it, didn’t make sure equipment fit properly and then got frustrated when someone asked for help. Then we moved on to the beach at Catalina Island where we sat for 45 minutes before lunch was served. Food was ok. Then another 2 hours on a beach with nothing to do except look at the outrageously priced gift shop or stand in the water before the boat left for the 45 minute ride back to the dock. Once we left the dock for our ride home, our driver managed to miss dropping others off at there meeting point so we had to back track where he left them in the parking lot and left. He didn’t even know where the people were supposed to go. ABSOLUTELY DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!

Response from the operator: First, regarding your interaction before the tour, your original question was about the snorkeling duration. We explained that there is no guaranteed snorkeling time, as this depends on sea conditions and the instructions of the PADI-certified dive team, whose priority is always guest safety. Unfortunately, instead of accepting this explanation, you became confrontational and demanded information that simply cannot be guaranteed in advance. Secondly, this excursion is clearly marketed as "Catalina Island Day Trip – Snorkeling Included." It is a full-day island experience, not a dedicated snorkeling excursion. The itinerary, transportation time, buffet lunch, beach time, open bar, and snorkeling stop are all described in the product before booking. The drive from Punta Cana to La Romana and the boat ride are standard for every operator offering Catalina Island excursions. Regarding the snorkeling equipment, our supplier maintains certified equipment, and our professional instructors assist guests throughout the activity. We did not receive any report from the dive team that your equipment was defective during the excursion. As for the beach time, many guests specifically book this excursion to relax on Catalina Island, enjoy the beach, lunch, and the Caribbean atmosphere. This is precisely the experience described in the product. Finally, concerning the return transportation, shared transfers operate with multiple hotels and passengers. Occasionally, minor operational adjustments are necessary, but all guests were transported safely to their respective accommodations. We respect every guest's opinion, but we also believe future travelers deserve an accurate description of the experience. This tour has been enjoyed by thousands of satisfied guests and continues to be one of our most popular full-day excursions in the Dominican Republic.

Cancelled trip last minute, no contact after

They cancelled our trip half an hour before departure and then did not reply to any texts or calls. We made another reservation with Alamo, and our trip with them went wonderfully. We are awaiting an answer from your provider, we hope no one else books them and has to go through this.

Response from the operator: Hello, thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for any confusion you experienced. However, we would like to clarify a few important points. All reservations made through an online travel agency (OTA) must be managed directly with the platform that processed the booking. For security and payment protection reasons, providers cannot modify or process cancellations or refunds outside of the agency system. This is why you were advised to contact the OTA support team — they are the only ones authorized to review and handle refund requests. Additionally, the activity on that date was affected by weather conditions, and operations in the area were suspended for safety reasons. For this type of excursion, departures depend on authorization from port authorities and operators, and we cannot operate when conditions are not safe for guests. We also attempted to communicate through the contact details provided on the reservation. Because of this, the tour could not run as scheduled, and the proper procedure is for the booking platform to review the case and issue the corresponding resolution according to their policies. We always aim to assist our guests and provide clear guidance in situations outside our control, especially when safety restrictions apply. We kindly recommend continuing the process directly with the agency where the reservation was made so they can finalize your case. We wish you the best in your travels and remain at your disposal if the platform requires any operational confirmation from us.

    At least we survived …..

As the title of this review states, that was the best part of the trip…. This was not as advertised which if not for blatant safety issues was something I could overlook. But as other reviews show, the boat was loaded far past capacity, it was also severely under powered. Approximately a 40 foot vessel with a captains perch. More than 40 to 45 people packed everywhere …. Twin V6 150s was the power setup. Boat literally bobbed in the wages as no chance boat could get on plane as designed. Snorkeling was the worst of my life. Horrible equipment; no safety briefing, very rough water with no protection and few fish to see. After 15 minute attempt got back on the boat. Guests were then invited to take smaller boats to the West facing beach Playa area. 18 people packed onto small boats with no life jackets. Literally had a life jacket taken from as elderly guest who said she could not swim. The beach area was beautiful and the food was delicious ….. chicken and amazing pork grilled. Ootional fish and lobster upgrades were fairly priced. Drinks were small but generous. Trip was saved by making new friends, who all shared the safety concerns and also shared lots of cerbeza and our new favorite drink rum and sprite. Upon rebounding the large vessel another guest had her hand crushed, literally crushed between the boats, much blood, she was nearly going into shock and the boat had no water and a tiny first aid kit. On the way back to harbor a left behind guest was brought to the boat. We enjoyed conversation with our new founds international friends and even with the captain and the crew …. And much more rum. ….. At least we survived. Tried to give zero stars but cannot🤪

Response from the operator: Dear traveler, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We are truly sorry to read that your experience did not meet your expectations during this excursion. That said, we respectfully do not agree with several points described in this review, particularly regarding the safety operations of the tour. Safety is our highest priority, and all vessels and activities used by our partners operate under local maritime regulations, including capacity limits, crew certification, mandatory safety equipment, and first-aid protocols. Life jackets are available on board for all passengers and snorkeling participants, and our providers conduct continual safety checks as part of their standard procedures. Regarding the snorkeling conditions, it is important to note that sea conditions can vary by day and are out of our control. When weather or water conditions affect visibility or comfort, our crews always prioritize passenger safety and may adjust the experience accordingly. Your concern about another guest being injured is taken very seriously. After reviewing the operation logs from that day, no incident report or emergency case was registered, and there was no request for medical assistance from our staff or authorities at the harbor. If such an event had occurred, proper protocol would have immediately included emergency response activation and formal documentation. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the beach, the food, and the opportunity to connect with fellow travelers — these elements reflect the authentic cultural experiences we aim to provide to our guests. We truly value all feedback and continuously work with our partners to improve service quality. However, we believe that this review does not accurately reflect the safety standards, procedures, or professional operations of the excursion as delivered. We remain committed to transparency, safety, and guest satisfaction and encourage any guest with concerns during their experience to notify staff immediately so they can be addressed on the spot. Kind regards, Somos Viaje Punta Cana

Catalina Island Day Trip from Punta Cana: Snorkeling included: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Punta Cana.

How much does Catalina Island Day Trip from Punta Cana: Snorkeling included cost?

    +

Prices start at $59 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Punta Cana usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Catalina Island Day Trip from Punta Cana: Snorkeling included take?

    +

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Punta Cana is not rushed.

Is Catalina Island Day Trip from Punta Cana: Snorkeling included worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 44 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (2.9/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Punta Cana, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Catalina Island Day Trip from Punta Cana: Snorkeling included?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Catalina Island Day Trip from Punta Cana: Snorkeling included suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Catalina Island Day Trip from Punta Cana: Snorkeling included?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Punta Cana can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Punta Cana and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Catalina Island Day Trip from Punta Cana: Snorkeling included start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Punta Cana within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Punta Cana?

    +

On Outty we rank every Punta Cana experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Punta Cana Zipline - 8 lines and a suspenseful hanging bridge, Punta Cana Buggy or ATV Tour with Macao Beach, Cave and Tastings, Buggy Excursion to Macau Beach and Natural Cave. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Punta Cana?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Punta Cana?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
