On your way to Cape Sounion, you will pass through some of the most beautiful suburbs of Athens right next to the sea, like Faliro, Voula and Vouliagmeni which among other things, is famous for its underground lake. Then you will enter the windy road by the Saronic Gulf and you will enjoy driving next to the sea, passing several villages and little islands. As soon as you arrive in Cape Sounion, you can walk all the way to the top where the temple of Poseidon is and take pictures of the magnificent view all around you. On the way back to your hotel or the port, you can stop at one of the many seaside tavernas to enjoy lunch or dinner, or you can stop at one of the beaches for a swim.

Temple of Poseidon
The temple of Poseidon was built in 444 BC to calm down Poseidon, after Athena was honored so much, by having the Parthenon built in honor of her. Since Athens was a great naval power in the ancient times, and their ships were exporting goods all over the known world, but also had many enemies, it was smart of them to use Cape Sounion as an alternative port. Moreover, very close to Cape Sounion, existed the mines of silver and lead of Lavrion. From the port of Sounion was that most of the lead was being exported. That was why Poseidon, the god of the sea and sailors, should be honored and always stand by their side on these long journeys through the sea, providing them with favorable winds and calm waters.

5 Stars - Terrific Experience
I booked the Cape Sounion & Athenian Riviera tour for clients who were a group of six. They loved the tour, said it was the best experience of their trip. The group particularly enjoyed Patrick, their driver. He was punctual, courteous and professional. He provided knowledge of the area and worked with the group to make the tour a special experience based on their interests. I went to Cabo Sunion and it was worth seeing the sunset there. The visit is quick, but the view is spectacular and the ruins are well preserved.

Fabulous Tour to Cape Sounion thanks to Niki Vlachou
On Niki's suggestion, we opted to do the Cape Sounion on our last day in Athens before our Cyclades Cruise and what a wonderful decision this was! First of all, Niki suggested a wonderful driver Patrick who was full of anecdotes and interesting facts on our drive there ( about 2 Hours) before sunset , and when we arrived, he stopped us in this tiny tavern on the beach where an entire greek family was celebrating the baptism of their baby , about 40 people, in celebration mode and we shared their celebration and it was a lot of fun and great simple food : I remember fondly the fried octopus and my fresh from being caught fish! We must have been the only non greek people there and it felt really special! After dinner and wine drinking with the family, we headed to the ruins of Poseidon Temple and it was simply gorgeous and breathtaking. Niki helped booking the cruise too and the private visit to the Acropolis Museum and site itself and everything thing was top notch! Merci Niki , you were a pleasure to deal with !
