About this experience
The lacy coastal road that begins in the Athenian suburb of Glyfada and winds its way through Vouliagmeni and Lagonisi to reach Cape Sounio is one of Attica’s most sublime routes. Small beaches with their sandy shores or rocky stretches, crystal-clear sparkling water and a perfectly blue sky accompany you along the way and delight the senses, mind, and soul of anyone taking this gorgeous route to get to one of Greece’s most idyllic spots, Cape Sounio. From a distance, your gaze is captivated by the ruins of the temple of Poseidon, commanding, stunning, a characteristic example of classical architecture of the 5th century BC. This is the spot that the ancient Athenians chose to honor their god Poseidon, within a fortress constructed to protect their coastline. Millions of visitors from around the globe also come here to gaze upon the sun setting into the arms of the Saronic Gulf. A memory that stays with them for a lifetime...

Cape Sounio and the Temple of Poseidon
Wonderful tour! Our tour guide, Notis, was lots of fun. He was very knowledgeable about the Temple of Poseidon and the history of Greece. He taught us how to say words in Greek and, at the end of the tour, took us to a lovely restaurant on the water. Highly recommended!

More than a transfer — a wonderful experience!
We had an absolutely wonderful experience with My Athens Transfers for our trip from Athens to the Temple of Poseidon. Communication from the very beginning was easy, quick, and efficient, and arranging the transfer was completely hassle-free. The car was excellent and very comfortable, but what truly made the experience special was our driver, Notis. Notis was incredibly polite, kind, and such a pleasant person to spend the journey with. He went far beyond simply driving us to the temple — along the way, he shared so much of his knowledge about Greece, its history, culture, and many other aspects of the country. We were genuinely impressed by how knowledgeable he was, and our conversations with him made us appreciate Greek history and culture even more. The drive itself became one of the memorable experiences of our time in Greece. We highly recommend My Athens Transfers, and if you have the opportunity to travel with Notis, even better! Thank you, Notis, for making our visit to the Temple of Poseidon even more special.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your incredibly thoughtful and detailed review! We’re delighted to hear that your experience with My Athens Transfers was smooth from the very beginning and that you enjoyed the comfortable vehicle and easy communication. We’re especially happy to hear that Notis made your journey to the Temple of Poseidon so memorable. His kindness, professionalism, and passion for Greek history and culture are exactly what we hope our guests experience, and it’s wonderful to know that your conversations with him added so much to your visit. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with Notis—he will be thrilled to hear how much you appreciated his company and knowledge. Thank you for recommending us, and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Greece again in the future!

Cape Sounio, Temple of Poseidon, Athenian Riviera Private Tour from Athens: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.
How much does Cape Sounio, Temple of Poseidon, Athenian Riviera Private Tour from Athens cost?
+
Prices start at $29 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Cape Sounio, Temple of Poseidon, Athenian Riviera Private Tour from Athens take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.
Is Cape Sounio, Temple of Poseidon, Athenian Riviera Private Tour from Athens worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 84 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 130 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Cape Sounio, Temple of Poseidon, Athenian Riviera Private Tour from Athens?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Cape Sounio, Temple of Poseidon, Athenian Riviera Private Tour from Athens suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Cape Sounio, Temple of Poseidon, Athenian Riviera Private Tour from Athens?
+
Around 46 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Cape Sounio, Temple of Poseidon, Athenian Riviera Private Tour from Athens start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Athens?
+
On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Athens?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Athens?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
