    This tour was a highlight...

This tour was a highlight of our trip, largely due to our tour guide, Manos. Manos built the agenda around experiences we wanted. We had a great time with a dip in the sea and lingering quite a while at the Temple of Poseidon. Manos was generous with his time as well as his knowledge. He never rushed us, and did a fantastic job answering questions with well articulated responses. I really enjoyed the way Manos held a dialogue vice giving a simple answer. We also appreciated the way Manos ensured the level of detail was just right. 3 words to describe Manos: kind, insightful, entertaining.

    Best tour guide in Athens!

What a wonderful day spent with Thomas in Athens! Coming off of a cruise ship we had only one day to visit Athens before returning home. Thomas made that one day memorable. Because we had been in Athens prior we wanted to see something new. We asked Thomas to take us to the temple of posiden and a beach. We saw many non touristy beautiful sceneries and also enjoyed the beach and ruins. Our drive was pleasant and beside scenery was filled with history, culture and friendly discussions. He learned we wanted to buy some olive oil and baklava and found just the right spots to do so even calling ahead to put aside the product for us! We had a wonderful day with Thomas feeling spoiled and pampered. We feel we have made a new friend in Athens as well! If we are ever back in the area we will definitely use his services again!

    Perfect Day

I am travelling through Greece with my 15 year old daughter. We booked a tour from Athens to Cape Sounio and the Temple of Poseidon. Nikos was an excellent guide - at the end we felt we had a new friend. He is a polymath - with multiple degrees and interests, currently completing a degree in Archeology. He was a wealth of information and presented it in a very engaging way for both myself and my daughter. We had asked to spend some time outdoors in nature and he took us to two sites which were outstandingly beautiful and significant - we would never have known about these places on our own. He was very kind to my daughter, always making sure she was comfortable and included. We can't speak highly enough - this was really a perfect day in a beautiful part of the world with a lovely person.

    A perfect December outing/

We spent Christmas in Athens and wanted one day outside the city. We chose the trip to Cape Sounion and Nikos because of his interest in history and archaeology. Because of the time of the year, we were not interested in a beach stop but wanted a coastal drive and lunch in a local restaurant. We also asked him to suggest anything else of interest in the area. He collected us from our hotel at 9.30 a.m. The drive to Cape Sounion was stunningly beautiful. On the way, he provided interesting information about ancient and modern Athens. He was very easy to talk to, and we enjoyed the conversation. At Sounion ,we had all the time we wanted to explore the temple precinct, soak up the atmosphere and marvel at the play of sea, distant mountains and light. Afterwards , he took us to the ancient silver mines in Lavrio. This area was new to us. Nikos gave us detailed explanations of the history of the area, the ancient mining processes and also showed us the stone theatre. Afterwards, we went to a small taverna for an excellent local. lunch . We arrived back at the hotel shortly before five. Nikos was an exceedingly pleasant and knowledgeable companion. He was thoughtful and understanding of my reduced mobility and completely fulfilled all our expectations for the day.

Cape Sounio and Temple of Poseidon Private Day Trip with Private Local Guide: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.

How much does Cape Sounio and Temple of Poseidon Private Day Trip with Private Local Guide cost?

    +

Prices start at $88 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Cape Sounio and Temple of Poseidon Private Day Trip with Private Local Guide take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.

Is Cape Sounio and Temple of Poseidon Private Day Trip with Private Local Guide worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 142 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Cape Sounio and Temple of Poseidon Private Day Trip with Private Local Guide?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Cape Sounio and Temple of Poseidon Private Day Trip with Private Local Guide suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Cape Sounio and Temple of Poseidon Private Day Trip with Private Local Guide?

    +

Around 50 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Cape Sounio and Temple of Poseidon Private Day Trip with Private Local Guide start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Athens?

    +

On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Athens?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Athens?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
