What you'll see and do
Lake Vouliagmeni
Lake Vouliagmeni, in the heart of the Athenian Riviera, is the hidden treasure of Attica nature. In an idyllic landscape, a rare geological phenomenon of global scope invites you to get to know it. The brackish waters of the lake that are constantly renewed, both from the sea and from the underground thermal springs, promise a natural and unique thermal spa experience. The imposing rock, the thermal waters, the labyrinthine underwater tunnels, the green vegetation create a unique geological phenomenon. Its current form was formed after a fall of the roof of the cave which was eroded by the high temperature of the water running inside. The Lake is included in the National Catalog NATURA 2000 but also as a Place of Special Natural Beauty by the Ministry of Culture. Where the famous lake ends, a multi-layered underwater cave begins, which has been explored to a length of 3,123 meters as its end has not been discovered.

Temple of Poseidon
Sounio is the name of the cape located at the southernmost tip at the end of the prefecture of Attica. Its beaches are rocky and steep. It rises almost vertically from the sea at a great height, forming at the foot of it to the west a small cove which is separated by another isthmus from another eastern cove. Sounio is known for its important geographical location but also because of the ruins of the ancient temple of Poseidon that are located in it. The first written reference to Sounio is made by Homer, who called it "Sounion sanctuary" (Odyssey) Specifically, it states that there Menelaus on his return journey from Troy, stopped to bury the captain of his ship Frontis. Sophocles, Euripides, Pausanias and Vitruvius also testify. In recent years, the wider area due to its environmental value, has been declared a national park. The Doric temple we see today was built of local marble of Agrileza on the ruins of the archaic temple. The gable roof was covered with flowery capes.

+

What are the best things to do in Athens?
+

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Athens?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Athens?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
