    About this experience

Bucharest is located in the Southern Romania. It is the country’s biggest city, with 2.2 million inhabitants (2012). It was first documented in 1459 AD and inhabited since 500 BC. Bucharest is the Capital of Romania since 1862 AD. It has an elegant architecture built in the period between the two World Wars, reason for which it used to be called the Little Paris. The legend says that the name Bucuresti (Bucharest) comes from a shepherd who founded the town on the Dambovita river, whose name was Bucur (this means in Romanian happiness). The name Bucharest could also come from the name of the beech forests – Bukovie, other sources link the name of the city with the Albanian name – bukureshti – which means “it is beautiful”.

    Catalin, The Ultimate Bucharest Guide

Four of us took the 4 hour guided tour with our guide, Catalin, who went above and beyond the call of guiding duty. Truly passionate and knowledgeable about Romania and Bucharest, his hotel and hospitality experience made him the perfect ambassador for the day. He was also very customer-centric, providing bottles of cold Transylvanian spring water, keeping us in the shade when necessary (it was a hot day), and helping us with souvenirs. He also added 20 minutes to the tour at no extra charge. If you come to Bucharest, we recommend you ask for Catalin.

When is the best time to visit Bucharest?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Bucharest?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
