About this experience

Meet with your guide and drive to the ruins of Manzushir Monastery on the edge of Bogd Khan mountain range. From there we take a 3-4 hour hike on a trail of moderate difficulty through mixed forests and alpine meadows to 2256m Tsetsee Gun peak, the highest point of the mountain range. We have a picnic lunch on the peak with scenic views of typical Siberian forests in the background before heading back down. We visit the monastery complex which was originally built in 1733. It was completely destroyed during anti-religion campaigns of 1930-ies with just the main temple remaining to these days. But apart from it we will see a few sections of shattered walls, foundations, stone terraces and some stone niches in the cliffs. The main temple building was recently been renovated and now serves as museum. We return to Ulaanbaatar in late afternoon.

Great hike in nature

It was a great hike in a beautiful surrounding. After spending some time in Ulaanbataar city center, it was a good getaway into nature, and from the top of mountain we had good views of the city from afar. MJ was a very friendly and knowledgeable guide and gave us a lot of information about Mongolian history, culture and society. She also brought good food for lunch. Our driver Ari was also very friendly and we felt safe during the 1-hour-drive to the starting point of the hike and on the way back. Even though the hike is a bit more expensive than other daytrips, we would highly recommend it as you get a truly personal and individual experience, as we were the only guests and could hike at our preferred speed and stop whenever we liked for pictures etc. As we were only 3 girls on the hike including MJ as guide, it felt more like a hike with a group of friends. 😊

A great escape from UB.

A beautiful walk into the forest and mountains well guided by OJ. And then a visit to the monastery ruin afterwards. A great escape from UB

Excellent Tour with Tsenge

I can’t ask for a better tour right from the start to the end. The company was very responsive to my emails even at late hours and sent over an email confirming my pickup deals the night before. Tsenge, my tour guide is extremely prompt, arriving before the scheduled pick up time and is knowledgable about the National Park and Mongolia. I learnt a lot from him. He is also a great navigator, as there are some portions the signage is not too clear. Would definitely recommend this company and guide any day.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much again for choosing our services and for the great review. I'm sure it will lead more customers and help them to make an informed decision when considering us.

Super helpful - highly recommended!

Batbayar and his colleague were super helpful. I wanted to hike on Mt Bogd Khan but travelling solo made a tour very expensive. Instead Batbayar arranged a car and driver for me and gave me lots of tips, maps, GPS tracks and advice so that I could visit and hike on my own. The service was exceptional and their English excellent. I would highly recommend them whether you are looking to join a tour or for some help and advice to make a trip independently.

This is a great way to escape from...

This is a great way to escape from the city for a day and get a little exercise. My girlfriend and I were the only 2 people in the group and we really enjoyed speaking with our informative and interesting guide. We did a 12-km round-trip hike to the top of Mt. Bogd Khan for some great views of the city. The hike is moderately strenuous and a good portion of it is on rocks or through a wooded area. We saw lots of squirrels, but no deer or foxes. We had a beautiful sunny day, and our hike was one of the highlights of our trip to Mongolia.

Bogd Khan Mountain Hiking Excursion - Private Day Trip: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ulaanbaatar.

How much does Bogd Khan Mountain Hiking Excursion - Private Day Trip cost?

+

Prices start at $102 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ulaanbaatar usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Bogd Khan Mountain Hiking Excursion - Private Day Trip take?

+

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ulaanbaatar is not rushed.

Is Bogd Khan Mountain Hiking Excursion - Private Day Trip worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Ulaanbaatar, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Bogd Khan Mountain Hiking Excursion - Private Day Trip?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Bogd Khan Mountain Hiking Excursion - Private Day Trip suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 14. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 7-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Bogd Khan Mountain Hiking Excursion - Private Day Trip?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ulaanbaatar can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ulaanbaatar and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Bogd Khan Mountain Hiking Excursion - Private Day Trip start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ulaanbaatar within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Ulaanbaatar?

+

On Outty we rank every Ulaanbaatar experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Genghis Khan Statue+Terelj Park+CamelRide+Eagle, A day trip to Terelj National Park and Statue of Chinggis Khan, BEST 5* Chinggis Khaan Airport UBN Ulaanbaatar Transfer Taxi 24/7. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Ulaanbaatar?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Ulaanbaatar?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
