About this experience
If you are looking for more than a sightseeing tour, this is your tour. We move away from flat routes to offer a high-energy experience designed to challenge your limits. Unlike other tours, here the effort is part of the prize: you will test your technique on demanding ascents and natural terrain that very few travelers get to know. What makes us unique is the perfect timing and location. Not only will you see the sunset over the Sierra Norte and Sierra Sur, but hopefully witness the magic of the moon emerging on the horizon as the sun sets. It is a total connection with Oaxacan geography from a 360 degree perspective that is only achieved by pedaling to the top. It is adrenaline, effort and the best panorama of the city in one tour.

A truly unique way to explore the Oaxacan Countryside
Luis took us biking on the backroads of Oaxaca Valley starting in Tulle. He provided the bikes and the helmets: excellent quality and condition. We had an early morning start when it is cooler. It was completely safe. Along the way Luis pointed out various landmarks, flora and fauna. Our final destination was a small well preserved Zapoteca Archaeological Site. We finished the excursion with lunch in Tulle: stone soup. We were exhausted and happy.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the wonderful review. I’m thrilled to hear you had such a great time exploring the Oaxaca Valley with me! It was a pleasure showing you the "hidden" side of the countryside and those quiet backroads starting from Santa María del Tule. I’m glad the gear worked out well for you—I always try to make sure my mountain bikes and equipment are in top shape so the ride stays safe and fun. Visiting that Zapotec archaeological site Dainzu in the morning light is one of my favorite parts of the route, and ending the day with a traditional Caldo de Piedra (Stone Soup) is definitely the best way to recharge! Hopefully, we can hit the trails again next time you’re in town. Safe travels! Best, Luis

Biking is Best
We searched all the different ways to visit Monte Albán from Centro: We are SO glad we landed with the bicycle tour offered by Luis. Truly the highlight of our time in Oaxaca. He timed the visit to the ruins perfectly, beating both the heat and the crowds of the day. The bicycle rides through the countryside were spectacular and an incredible way to experience Oaxaca. Lunch at a village restaurant was tasty—and never to be found without his guidance. Water and energy drinks are provided, which is a great touch. But not the greatest: after the trip he sent us a video clip of the day’s adventures! I can’t enough good things—you will not regret going on one of Luis’ treks.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much! It makes me so happy to hear that our bicycle tour to Monte Albán was the highlight of your time in Oaxaca. I always aim to time our visits to beat the crowds and the heat, allowing my guests to enjoy the ancient Zapotec ruins in peace. Cycling through the Oaxacan countryside and stopping at those hidden, authentic village restaurants for a traditional lunch is exactly the "off the beaten track" experience I love to provide. I’m glad you enjoyed the video—it’s my way of making sure you have a lasting memory of our adventure! Bike ride in Oaxaca with Luis Ramirez and Oaxaca By Bike
My wife and I did a wonderful bike tour with Luis. He is a great guide - friendly and knowledgeable. The bikes are high quality and he took good care of us and made sure we were safe. It was fun to pass through many small villages and we had a great mid-morning meal in Teotitlán. He was very attentive when we wanted to stop and take photos or needed a short break. Oaxaca By Bike is a great way to see the countryside if you are a cyclist!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much! It was a pleasure riding with you and your wife. I am glad you enjoyed the route through the scenic villages and our stop for a traditional meal in Teotitlán del Valle. As a fellow cyclist, I know that high-quality bikes and safety are the most important parts of a great trip. I always make sure our cycling tours in Oaxaca are flexible, allowing plenty of time for photos of the stunning countryside and breaks to soak in the local atmosphere. "Oaxaca by Bike" is truly the best way to see the heart of our region! +
On Outty we rank every Oaxaca City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include AUTHENTIC OAXACA CULTURAL FOOD TOUR, eat like a local., Hierve el Agua 2.5 hours, Mitla, Tule, Rugs and Mezcal for a Day, Traditional Oaxaqueña Cooking with Grandma's Recipes. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Oaxaca City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Oaxaca City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
