Phenominal Tour Guide by Lehua Tours, (Big Mike)
From the time we were picked up at 8:30am from Hilo airport our tour guide of Lehua Tours, Big Mike, gave us a summary of what we would be seeing and doing for the day, which was helpful. Every place we went to was breath taking, the waterfalls, the volcano tube, the active volcano was amazing. This tour was worth the money, the tour guide was just phenominal (big Mike of Lehua Tours). If you go to the Big Island, we would recommend Lehua Tours by Big Mike you will not regret it. Big Mike knew so much about the Island, he grew up there, we enjoyed learning about the history, the plants, the flowers and all the right spots to give us good views. He was most respectful, fun, on time and professional. The tour package included lunch which he picked a really good spot for us to have lunch where we could directly see the active volcano and saw the lava. He picked us up from Hilo airport and dropped us back at the airport when we finished. Everything that he did on this tour had a personal touch. He took pure joy in sharing with us this beautiful Island. We can not say enough about this experience. Big Mike of Lehua Tours was just that good.

Volcano Tour
Mike is the best tour guide we’ve ever had. His level of service and knowledge was just outstanding. He even called us the day before the tour to let us know the volcano was active and if possible to go see it as it will not be active the day of the tour.

Our guide, Mike, was...
Our guide, Mike, was wonderful! He had a video and showed us pictures and narrated some of the history of the island while we were driving from one location to the next. We visited several volcano sites and beautiful waterfalls. Mike is a local of the island and knew many places to take us. He took us to a favorite place of his for a great lunch, took us to a flea market for some shopping, and took us to the beach for a dip in the ocean. He greeted us with a Hawaiian lei, gave us chocolate covered macadamias, a 2027 calendar of Hawaii, and some great memories. I would highly recommend this trip.

Big Mike for the Win !!!
Highly Recommend!! Big Mike is awesome. He’s so informative and knows the island well. You will see a ton of things and be entertained along the way. I won’t hold that the volcano erupted the next day after our tour against him LOL :-),

Why this scores 84
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Big Island Scenic Tour: Volcano Hilo Town Waterfall Beach & Lunch: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hilo.
How much does Big Island Scenic Tour: Volcano Hilo Town Waterfall Beach & Lunch cost?
+
Prices start at $199 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hilo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Big Island Scenic Tour: Volcano Hilo Town Waterfall Beach & Lunch take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hilo is not rushed.
Is Big Island Scenic Tour: Volcano Hilo Town Waterfall Beach & Lunch worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 84 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 104 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Hilo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Big Island Scenic Tour: Volcano Hilo Town Waterfall Beach & Lunch?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Big Island Scenic Tour: Volcano Hilo Town Waterfall Beach & Lunch suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Big Island Scenic Tour: Volcano Hilo Town Waterfall Beach & Lunch?
+
Around 36 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hilo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hilo and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Big Island Scenic Tour: Volcano Hilo Town Waterfall Beach & Lunch start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hilo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Hilo?
+
On Outty we rank every Hilo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hawaii Volcanoes, Waterfalls, Beaches & Hilo Highlights Day Tour, Hilo Shore Excursion: Active Volcano, Lava Tube, Waterfall and Gardens, Hilo Shore Excursion: Volcano Safari Lava Caves & Black Sand. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Hilo?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Hilo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
