Illegal Fake Tour - Beware don't lose your money

This tour is an illegal unpermitted tour. They don't have a permit to take tours to the summit of Mauna Kea and will be turned around by Rangers at the Visitor Center. If you book a tour with them, you won't see the summit. I would advise using a reputable permitted tour company.

Response from the operator: Hi nahuag, Thank you for sharing your concern about our tour operations. We appreciate your feedback and would like to clarify that we operate all our tours in compliance with the relevant authorities and regulations. We hold all necessary permits, including those required for summit tours of Mauna Kea, and work closely with park authorities to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for our guests. Our guides are experienced and knowledgeable, and we prioritize the safety and satisfaction of our clients. We would be happy to address any further questions or concerns you may have. Best Regards, Khitish BarbilTours/Platformpoints LLC

Great views and lots of pictures

Zach was very informative and provided ample opportunities to see the fantastic views, and take photos. Mauna Kea was a great place to see a lot, radio telescopes were actually being repositioned while we watched. Zach was great

Response from the operator: Thank you for the glowing review! We're thrilled to hear that Zach provided an informative and memorable experience for you on Mauna Kea! The summit's stunning views and unique attractions, like the radio telescopes, make it a truly special destination. We're glad you got to witness the telescopes being repositioned – what a fascinating sight! Thanks again for sharing your experience with us. We'll pass on your kind words to Zach, and we can't wait to welcome you back on another adventure! Best Regards Khitish (Barbil Tours)

A great day of sightseeing and getting to know our guide.

This was a great tour! Our tour guide Anni picked us up on time. Anni was a great source of the island geographic and cultural elements paying special attention to our needs. She transported us to the Mauna Kea visitor center first where we spent about 45 minutes acclimatizing to the elevation (about 9000feet). Then it was on to the top, almost 14000 feet (you need a 4 wheel drive vehicle for this). It was an unusually clear and calm day according to Anni so we got some great pictures. Then back to the visitor center where Anni shared some of the local fruits with us she had brought. From there we headed back to Hilo and visited a couple of local art galleries and a beautiful downtown park. Anni then returned us to our condo by mid afternoon. An especially enjoyable tour made special by our guide Anni.

Response from the operator: Hi Traveller, Thank you for your wonderful review! We truly appreciate your feedback and are excited to have had the chance to serve you. We look forward to the opportunity to work with you again in the future! Best regards, Khitish Helpdesk Team(Barbil Tours)

From Big Island Hilo - Enchanting Mauna Kea & Waterfalls Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hilo.

How much does From Big Island Hilo - Enchanting Mauna Kea & Waterfalls Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $450 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hilo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does From Big Island Hilo - Enchanting Mauna Kea & Waterfalls Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hilo is not rushed.

Is From Big Island Hilo - Enchanting Mauna Kea & Waterfalls Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 43 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.3/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Hilo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule From Big Island Hilo - Enchanting Mauna Kea & Waterfalls Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is From Big Island Hilo - Enchanting Mauna Kea & Waterfalls Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book From Big Island Hilo - Enchanting Mauna Kea & Waterfalls Tour?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hilo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hilo and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does From Big Island Hilo - Enchanting Mauna Kea & Waterfalls Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hilo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Hilo?

    +

On Outty we rank every Hilo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hawaii Volcanoes, Waterfalls, Beaches & Hilo Highlights Day Tour, Hilo Shore Excursion: Active Volcano, Lava Tube, Waterfall and Gardens, Hilo Shore Excursion: Volcano Safari Lava Caves & Black Sand. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Hilo?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Hilo?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
