A must do while in Addis Ababa! Highly recommended!

Guided tour with Fitsum was one of the most fun experiences on our Africa vacation and it was also the first food tour that we did in our life! The tour lasted 4 hours and it's absolutely incredible as to how many different places we have been and things we have tried! The tour is also perfectly planned geographically, so the flow was great, and we got to see different sides of Addis Ababa and it was never walking back to anything, always something new. Besides the food he has also taught us A LOT about history and culture, so when we did sightseeing tour after, so many things we already knew because of him. Cascara drink at the beginning was absolutely FANTASTIC, it's worth coming back for! HAHA Amazing thing about the tour, that even though we pretty much ate for 4 hours straight, we didn't feel like we will explode afterwards, as everything was thought out carefully. Being that we did both food tour and sightseeing tour, if you have limited time in Addis Ababa I HIGHLY recommend you do just the A Chef's Tour Addis Ababa food tour alone, it's MUCH more worth it!!!

Outstanding Food Tour and Guide in Addis Ababa

This was one of the highlights of my time in Addis Ababa. My guide Fitsum was knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about sharing Ethiopian food and culture. The tour was much more than just eating—it provided insight into local traditions, daily life, and the people. We visited several different locations and had the opportunity to try a wide variety of authentic Ethiopian foods that I never would have discovered on my own. My guide was patient with questions, tailored the experience to my interests, and made me feel completely comfortable exploring the city. As a solo female traveler, I especially appreciated how welcoming and safe the experience felt. The tour was well organized, relaxed, and incredibly informative. By the end, I felt like I had gained a much deeper understanding of Ethiopia through its food, people, and culture. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Addis Ababa. If you’re looking for an authentic local experience with an excellent guide, this is the one to book.

    Trying fermented food!

Really loved this tour. The route itself was great and took us through some really interesting neighbourhoods that I probably would never have seen on my own. The meat options were also really interesting to try, but I appreciated that there was never any pressure if something felt a bit outside your comfort zone and a cooked version was also available. Trying to make injera was such a fun part of the experience too and much harder than it looked!!

    Great experience and food

Loved this tour with Fitsum. It was really relaxed and flexible, and I got to try so many different things. The food just kept coming and coming, but everything was delicious and really interesting. I also loved hearing the stories behind the dishes. It made the whole experience feel more local and gave me a much better understanding of Ethiopian food. Would definitely recommend.

Great experience but we both fell sick :(

Good: Booking the tour was very easy, and our guide was great. Fitsum was a great guide and very passionate about sharing his knowledge with us. We learned about the coffee bean, different regions, and which coffee beans they grow, etc. As we continued our tour, we went into the neighborhoods in Addis where locals hang out and eat. We tried many different dishes, and it was a pleasure to share them with our guide. Bad: The unfortunate part is that my friend and I both fell sick by the end of the day. We notified our guide, who escalated this immediately to management. The management team assured us that they are going to look into the places they recommend for this trip and also offered us a full refund.

Berbere Bites Food Tour with 14+ Tastings: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Addis Ababa.

How much does Berbere Bites Food Tour with 14+ Tastings cost?

    +

Prices start at $49 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Addis Ababa usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Berbere Bites Food Tour with 14+ Tastings take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Addis Ababa is not rushed.

Is Berbere Bites Food Tour with 14+ Tastings worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Addis Ababa, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Berbere Bites Food Tour with 14+ Tastings?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Berbere Bites Food Tour with 14+ Tastings suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Berbere Bites Food Tour with 14+ Tastings?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Addis Ababa can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Addis Ababa and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Berbere Bites Food Tour with 14+ Tastings start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Addis Ababa within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Addis Ababa?

    +

On Outty we rank every Addis Ababa experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Addis Ababa Authentic Private City Tour, Addis Ababa Guided City Tour With Airport & Hotel Pick Up, Full Day Tour of Addis Ababa with Hotel Pickup and Drop-off. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Addis Ababa?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Addis Ababa?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
