This tasting experience introduces two of Switzerland’s most famous culinary traditions. Swiss cheese is produced using high-quality milk from cows grazing on Alpine pastures, creating a wide range of flavors from mild to mature. Chocolate is another national specialty, with Switzerland known for its innovation and craftsmanship since the development of milk chocolate in the 19th century. During the tasting, you will sample selected regional cheeses and artisan chocolates while learning how ingredients, origin, and production methods influence flavor. Together, these specialties reflect Switzerland’s strong tradition of quality, craftsmanship, and connection to its landscape.

Very clever
Loved the cheese and chocolate demonstration. Learned so much about cheese production and the different cows who produce the milk to make the cheese.

Guide was a no show and no communication from tour operator
I wish I could give this operator a ZERO review. We booked this tour several weeks in advance and received confirmation. Got a TripAdvisor reminder the day prior saying “you’re almost there!” We arrived at the pickup point 15 minutes early….and waited. After no guide showed, 7 minutes after the start time I called the tour operator. He told me the tour had been moved to tomorrow. Since we are leaving tomorrow that does not work. I asked for an immediate refund and was told to send an email. Horrible experience for our one full day in Basel. Absolutely avoid this tour!

Enjoyable tour of Old Town Basel
Carlos did an excellent job as our guide. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Walking through old town helped give us our bearings for later explorations during our trip to Basel. Appreciated learning some of Basel's history and the cheese and chocolate tasting.

How much does Basel Old Town, Cheese & Chocolate Experience | From Basel cost?

Is Basel Old Town, Cheese & Chocolate Experience | From Basel worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 49 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Basel, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Basel Old Town, Cheese & Chocolate Experience | From Basel?

Is Basel Old Town, Cheese & Chocolate Experience | From Basel suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Basel Old Town, Cheese & Chocolate Experience | From Basel?
+
Around 17 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Basel can sell out a month out. What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Basel and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Basel within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Basel?
+
On Outty we rank every Basel experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Alsace wine tour and medieval villages. Small group guided tour, Basel : Private Custom Walking Tour With A Guide (Private Tour), Stories of Basel's Old Town. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Basel?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Basel?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
