Beyond expectations, would recommend to friends
Absolutely a highlight of our time in Porto to see the U of Coimbra and Aveiro with João Jesus as our guide. My girlfriend and I stayed in Porto but wanted to see other cities too. We are not necessarily savvy with public transit, so having transportation included made this tour well worth the ticket price. Make sure you select the option with the Coimbra ticket included. There were no other signups besides my girlfriend and me. Some companies will cancel when this happens but they ran the tour privately for us. João speaks excellent English and answered my many random history questions while we drove. He gives other tours as well, so you can ask him about other things like wine. Extremely hospitable: It rained at Aveiro and he was prepared with an extra umbrella. Aveiro wasn't on my agenda but with its blue tiled churches, murals, striped houses, stone sidewalks, endless cafes, it is absolutely a city worth seeing. Aveiro is famous for historically producing sea salt and there are murals that bear witness to this. In colonial times, salt would be traded with natives in America and Africa in exchange for gold. In the city of Coimbra we drove past an ancient roman aquaduct. At the U, we saw: 1) an "academic prison" where in ancient times students would go for bad behavior, 2) the school chapel which made my jaw actually drop (walls and ceiling covered with blue tiles and paintings symbolizing portugal and catholicism) but even more beautiful was 3) The U of Coimbra library which is still used for academic purposes and contains books (I believe) from the 17th century. The library was crowded with other (large) tour groups and João made sure we had the best experience.

Beautiful towns
Amazing experience, this was the perfect day trip out of Porto! Our guide Chris was excellent, he went above and beyond to make the tour a fun experience and make sure we were comfortable. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. I’m glad we had him to give us the history behind the towns, it would not have been the same experience going to visit without a guide.

Wonderful day out filled with highlights
We had a wonderful day with Miguel, our tour guide and driver, exploring Aviero and Coimbra. Both locations were interesting and beautiful. Highlights included seeing the Costa Nova coloured houses, taking the relaxing Moliceiro boat ride, exploring the Coimbra University buildings including the Royal Palace, Joanina Library and Chapel of Saint Michael. Being born and bred in Porto, Miguel had a wealth of knowledge about Aviero and Coimbra, as well as Porto and Portugal, and was happy to answer any questions we had. He kept our day running on time without pressuring us and was an excellent driver. We would highly recommend this tour.
Response from the operator: Dear guests, Thank you very much for your wonderful review. We are delighted to know that your day exploring Aveiro and Coimbra with Miguel was filled with highlights — from the colourful Costa Nova houses and the relaxing Moliceiro boat ride to the impressive university buildings in Coimbra. It is truly rewarding to hear that Miguel’s knowledge, timing and excellent driving contributed to such a memorable experience. We sincerely appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you again soon. Warm regards, Meridian4People Team

Why this scores 78
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Aveiro and Coimbra Small Group Tour with Moliceiro Boat Cruise: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Porto.
How much does Aveiro and Coimbra Small Group Tour with Moliceiro Boat Cruise cost?
+
Prices start at $55 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Porto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Aveiro and Coimbra Small Group Tour with Moliceiro Boat Cruise take?
+
Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Porto is not rushed.
Is Aveiro and Coimbra Small Group Tour with Moliceiro Boat Cruise worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 268 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Porto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Aveiro and Coimbra Small Group Tour with Moliceiro Boat Cruise?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Aveiro and Coimbra Small Group Tour with Moliceiro Boat Cruise suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Aveiro and Coimbra Small Group Tour with Moliceiro Boat Cruise?
+
Around 94 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Porto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Porto and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Aveiro and Coimbra Small Group Tour with Moliceiro Boat Cruise start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Porto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Porto?
+
On Outty we rank every Porto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Unvanquished Tour in Porto City Center, Porto's #1 Walking Tour, Small Group Geres National Park Full Day with picnic from Porto. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Porto?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Porto?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
