Wonderful Sri Lankan cooking experience
Shasi and her mom were wonderful. They have a deep knowledge of Sri Lankan food and loved to share it. The food was excellent. And she was able to cater the class to the exact recipes we wanted to learn.

An authentic, homestyle cooking experience with family
My mum and I thoroughly enjoyed our day with Shasikala and her mum. It was a very authentic and generous experience - we had eight dishes prepared and to try during our visit and Shasikala kindly tailored the menu to suit dishes we wanted to try. The market and tuk tuk tour was a fun way to start the day before settling in at home for food preparation. This is a genuine, in-home experience - not a commercial kitchen - and it is entertaining keeping up with Shasi and her mum. We generally enjoy cooking classes that are very hands on to help with remembering the preparation process, while this was a mix of observation and hands on. Thank you Shasi for a memorable day!

Practical guide on Sri Lankan cooking
I found this jewel of Sri Lankan culture by accident and enjoyed every minute. Shasikala and her mother greeted me at the door and the next three hours were spent with laughter, chatting, and of course cooking. Having been to Sri Lanka for five times, I am very keen on learning to use the spices, so the visit to the market was also very helpful. I have cooked back home in Germany many curries since my return and they were all delicious. Not as good as Shasikala's dishes, so I have to return for more classes. Barbara

Best Sri Lankan food in the island!
We had an amazing experience cooking with Shasi and her mum! They're both very kind, and both my mum and I agreed it was absolutely the best food we had in Sri Lanka. At the end Shasi also gave us some fresh herbs and ordered us tuk-tuk so we could be back home quickly and safely. Highly recommend!!!

Delicious food and good company
This was one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka! Shasikala was so friendly and kind, it was wonderful to be welcomed into her home. Both her and her mother showed us how to make a variety of Sri Lankan dishes which were all delicious. Their 3 friendly dogs were a bonus as well! Highly recommend.

Why this scores 60
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Authentic Sinhalese Cooking Class in Colombo with a Local Family: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Colombo.
How much does Authentic Sinhalese Cooking Class in Colombo with a Local Family cost?
+
Prices start at $148 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Colombo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Authentic Sinhalese Cooking Class in Colombo with a Local Family take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Colombo is not rushed.
Is Authentic Sinhalese Cooking Class in Colombo with a Local Family worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Colombo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Authentic Sinhalese Cooking Class in Colombo with a Local Family?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Authentic Sinhalese Cooking Class in Colombo with a Local Family suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Authentic Sinhalese Cooking Class in Colombo with a Local Family?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Colombo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Colombo and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Authentic Sinhalese Cooking Class in Colombo with a Local Family start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Colombo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Colombo?
+
On Outty we rank every Colombo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Flexi dates on all 5 to 7 days packages for car and English speaking driver, Sri Lanka Personal Tour Driver in private vehicle, 08 Nights in Magical Sri Lanka. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Colombo?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Colombo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
