    Worth every peso

We had an amazing day with Felix from Oaxaca Conmigo Tours visiting local businesses and markets to sample Oaxacan cuisine, experience local life, and see how their Zapotecan rugs are produced from start to finish. Each stop on this tour was carefully chosen to avoid tourist traps and connect with the local community. We even had a hands-on lesson in roasting cacao and grinding it for mole in the kitchen of a local family. We ate SO much and learned even more. I would give this tour 10 stars if I could!

Response from the operator: Hola Hallie! Thank you so much for your trust and for taking the time to write this amazing review! The tour you took is one of the most delicious and authentic food experiences we have in Oaxaca. Hope you enjoyed every single food, meal and drink you had that they, all of them has a little piece of our beautiful Oaxaca! Gracias amigos

    A truly special, wonderful tour

Felix gave us a fantastic tour! His enthusiasm for and knowledge of Zapotec culture made the experience very rich - not just about the food we tried (all delicious) but the sights we saw and the people we met along the way. It really is a full-day tour: come prepared to enjoy many different flavors and also see beautiful artistry as you visit a weaver, a mezcal maker, and a chocolate and mole expert. Wear casual clothing, comfortable shoes, and a hat as part of the tour will be outdoors. Felix speaks perfect English and will answer any questions you may have. We absolutely loved every minute.

Amazing glimpse of Oaxaca’s food and culture

Six out of five stars! Or seven! Our tour guide Iveth took really good care of us and made sure met our and her expectations. Each place we visited was very traditonal and the food was amazing! Our highlight was the mole tasting and chocolate making with Doña Dalia. She’s a treasure! Not only did she share her food with us, but she also shared many stories of her childhood and her culture. Definitely a must if you’re in Oaxaca.

Better than we could have imagined!!! Don’t let the price scare you…it was definitely worth it.

Antonia was great to book with. He was responsive and in doing some research, the booking experience was completely safe as they are affiliated with Viator and Trip Advisor. It was only my daughter (19 years old ) and I and Felix was right on time with our pick up at our hotel. He had cold water in a cooler waiting for us. To keep the praise short, EVERY stop we made was an experience to remember. We speak weak Spanish but Felix spoke very good English and interpreted things when it was needed. I like to think I am a foodie with a great scope of experience in trying great food from everywhere, but I was completely humbled by the authenticity, integrity and skill that everything we met had. Our final meal with Dalia was the absolute best food I have ever had! It was interactive, informative and delicious. Mexico is full of wonderful people with a heritage that they are very proud of, I’m honoured that Felix and Antonio allowed us to be a part of it. I highly recommend this to everyone - you won’t regret it!

    Highly recommend!

This was an amazing experience. Felix was an awesome guide and everything we did was wonderfully fun. The food was great, but seeing the traditional wool dyeing and weaving techniques was a true highlight, something we'll never forget.

Authentic Oaxacan food & Cultural Experience: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oaxaca City.

How much does Authentic Oaxacan food & Cultural Experience cost?

    +

Prices start at $350 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oaxaca City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Authentic Oaxacan food & Cultural Experience take?

    +

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oaxaca City is not rushed.

Is Authentic Oaxacan food & Cultural Experience worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 13 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oaxaca City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Authentic Oaxacan food & Cultural Experience?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Authentic Oaxacan food & Cultural Experience suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Authentic Oaxacan food & Cultural Experience?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oaxaca City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oaxaca City and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Authentic Oaxacan food & Cultural Experience start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oaxaca City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Oaxaca City?

    +

On Outty we rank every Oaxaca City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include AUTHENTIC OAXACA CULTURAL FOOD TOUR, eat like a local., Hierve el Agua 2.5 hours, Mitla, Tule, Rugs and Mezcal for a Day, Traditional Oaxaqueña Cooking with Grandma's Recipes. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Oaxaca City?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Oaxaca City?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
