About this experience
This is a special activity where you can wear a silk kimono and experience traditional Japanese dance. Choose your favorite from about 800 kimonos; after dressing, simple hair styling and sandals (zori) are provided. Afterward, you can explore Kyoto in your kimono. The rental shop also has two Shiba Inu dogs, popular worldwide, so you can meet these adorable dogs. Once dressed, you'll head to the dance venue to enjoy Japanese green tea and seasonal sweets while learning about Nihon Buyo (Japanese classical dance). Wearing a beautiful kimono, sipping tea, and tasting sweets creates a special moment to experience Japanese culture. After the introduction, you’ll learn basic postures, graceful walking, fan usage, and simple choreography. Songs often reflect Japanese culture, allowing you to connect with tradition while dancing. You can also record videos to capture wonderful memories.

Fun Traditional Japanese Dance Class!
I had a wonderful time! I was helped to pick out and dress in a kimono, then I spent an hour learning some simple (yet challenging!) choreography and learning some history! We also had some tea which was refreshing and lovely. I would absolutely recommend this experience to everyone! 🤗
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for joining Nihon Buyo Dance experience and four your kind feedback! I'm really happy to hear that you had a a good time.

Incredibly special maiko fan dance experience
This is one of the most wonderful ways you can spend your time, energy and money in Kyoto! I was met at the lovely shop to be expertly dressed in kimono, including a visit with 2 adorable Shiba Inu pups! Yasuchisaya met me to walk to her studio, which also has a couple of shy kitties (always a plus for me.). She took time to explain the history and purpose of our dance and gave ample time to make sure I got the steps down. The tea and sweet was also delicious! We recorded a few videos to make sure we got it right and in frame, and I was grateful for the memory to be captured. We walked back to the shop and took a few photos, which I will cherish! I'm wish I could have spent more time in kimono but had to run. I would love to come back and keep learning! Beautiful experience that I'll cherish!

How far in advance should I book Authentic Japanese Dance Experience in Kyoto?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kyoto can sell out a month out. What should I bring or wear?

What are the best things to do in Kyoto?
+
On Outty we rank every Kyoto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kyoto : Gion Make Your Own Chopsticks with Engraving Option, Award-Winning Authentic Ramen Making Experience in Kyoto, Hidden Kyoto E-Biking tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kyoto?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kyoto?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
