Beautiful mt with excellent team
The 5D Ausangate with rainbow mountain is the most beautiful trek I have ever been too. The scenery beats Kilimanjaro and my previous fav - EBC in Nepal. My frens and I would not have completed this trek without my capable guide Urbano from Vidal. Having done the Salkantay trek with another operator before Ausangate, I was able to compare the 2 diff guides and Urbano stands out for his professionalism and I could tell that he loves what he is doing. Urbano takes care of everyone of us and ensures that we walk at an appropriate pace with rest stop so that we will not be hit with AMS. He is knowledgeable and constantly share with us the history of Peru and about Ausangate (His English is excellent!!!). Along the way, Urbano spot many animals that many trekkers miss and point it out to us. He is also a professional photographer and took a lot of photos and video of us with his camera and drone. He knows the best spot! Also want to thank our chef Enrique who cook us a feast. Horse drivers Ángel, José, & Machula who always move ahead early every morning to ensures we get the best camping spot and that our tents are all set up before we arrive. Equipment provided by Vidal was top notch. We were each given a pillow, a foam mattress and even a fleece liner to ensure we sleep comfortably. There’s even a portable toilet set up for us at camps without public toilets. Besides the excellent weather. I feel very blessed to have chosen Vidal and have this capable team with us. I will not hesitate to book with Vidal expeditions again for my future treks. I love Peru!

Ausangate trek
We had such a wonderful and memorable experience on our hike, and we’re truly grateful to the entire team who took such great care of us along the way. Our guide, Urbano, was fantastic — very professional, caring, and knowledgeable. He shared so much about the Andean culture, traditions, and way of life, which made the journey much more meaningful. He was always looking out for us and made sure we were comfortable and doing well throughout the hike. A big thank you to our amazing chef, Enrique, who prepared such delicious meals for us every day. After hours of hiking, coming back to a warm and tasty meal was something we really looked forward to! His food definitely helped us recharge and recover. We’d also like to give a special mention to our horse drivers, Ángel, José, and Machula. They worked so hard behind the scenes to make sure everything was ready for us when we arrived at each campsite — from our tents to the toilets. We really appreciated their hard work and dedication. The weather was beautiful, the scenery was breathtaking, and most importantly, we had an incredible team taking care of us. We came away with wonderful memories and a much deeper appreciation for the Andes and its people. Thank you, Urbano, Enrique, Ángel, José, and Machula, for making this such a special experience. We truly appreciate everything you did for us! ❤️🏔️

An Incredible Trek with amazing team.
The 5-day trek was challenging but incredibly rewarding. The entire team that supported me was absolutely fantastic. Our guide, Chino, had an excellent sense of when I needed a short break, when I was ready to pick up the pace, or when it was better to slow down. He also shared so much interesting information about the mountains, the local culture, and the surrounding area, making the experience even more special. The whole team was always smiling, incredibly kind, and happy to help whenever needed. They truly went above and beyond to make this an unforgettable adventure. I even managed to convince Chino to join me for a TikTok dance, which made the trip even more memorable!

Ausangate trek 5 days!!
We (my boyfriend and I) did the 5 day Ausangate trek, including a visit to the Rainbow Mountain on the third day. Our guide, Urbano, was experienced and could explain a lot about the nature, mountains and climbing routes along the way. He also paid close attention to everyone's acclimatization and gave the group many helpful tips on dealing with the altitude. Although there were differences in hiking pace within the group, Urbano managed the group exceptionally well, making sure everyone stayed together without the faster hikers feeling held back or the slower hikers feeling rushed. There were options to walk to some extra viewpoints after arriving at the camp as well. In this trip, you go together with a cook and some other people with horses. The cook was a really happy person and made delicious food for us. Together with the local people with the horses, they walked with us and had a lot of fun together. That was nice to see and made us happy as well. The landscape is really nice here. When we did the tour, there were not many other groups so there are moments you have the nature for yourself. Because we woke up at 3 pm on the third day, we arrived ad the rainbow mountain before the crowds and were the only group there. By the time all the quads and day hikers arrived, we already left on our way to the next place to put op the tents. For people considering this hike: make sure you are well acclimatized because this hike is mostly above 4500 meters.

Why this scores 81
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Ausangate Trek 5 Days: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.
How much does Ausangate Trek 5 Days cost?
+
Prices start at $660 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Ausangate Trek 5 Days take?
+
Plan for about 120 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.
Is Ausangate Trek 5 Days worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 87 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Ausangate Trek 5 Days?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Ausangate Trek 5 Days suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 120-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Ausangate Trek 5 Days?
+
Around 30 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 120-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Ausangate Trek 5 Days start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cusco?
+
On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Peruvian Cooking Class Cocktails and Market Tour in Cusco, Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cusco?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cusco?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
