Must do tour
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hands Down the Best Day in Belize! Erick is an Amazing Guide! If you're heading to San Ignacio, doing the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave tour with Erick is a total must! From the very start, the whole day was pure fun. Erick made the trek through the jungle and the river swims feel like an incredible adventure. Swimming right into the dark mouth of the cave, wading through subterranean streams, and scrambling over giant boulders was an absolute blast—and Erick kept the energy high while making sure everyone felt totally safe. Once inside, Erick brought the Maya history to life in a way that was super engaging and fun. He walked us through the sacred history, the ancient pottery artifacts, and the famous Crystal Maiden with awesome stories that made the past feel totally real and exciting, without ever feeling like a dry lecture. The ATM Cave is easily one of the most incredible adventures in Central America, but having Erick as our guide took it to another level. Unforgettable energy, super cool history, zero stress, and a tons-of-fun experience from start to finish! Ask for Erick—you won't regret it!

Excellent Tour Company
We did the ATM cave tour in Belize. The tour company, Ruwa Travel was very thorough in coordinating with us and making sure we were prepared and ready by sending messages to us in advance of our trip. The tour itself was great with James Martinez as our guide. He was the best! But the tour company also excelled by making sure my son and I had a tour guide as the one who was originally assigned to us earlier became ill and James was selected to guide us, even though we were a smaller group of two rather than the usual maximum number of 6. As a result, we enjoyed more individual attention and could take our time. I would select Ruwa travel again in the future as they made sure we were taken care of and ready to go..

Your choice of words are exactly how we would describe what it’s like to experience the ATM Cave! Please let us know if and when you are in Belize next so we can once again be a part of your Belizean adventures! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team

The Best Guide and ATM Experience we could hope for!
ATM is an amazing adventure but what really made it come to life was our guide, James Martinez. James was passionate about the history, geology, archaeology as well as the personal connection he had with the people and the local area. He knew the history inside and out and he spent over 5 1/2 hours with us inside the cave. He kept it safe, interesting and humorous all the way through. My son and I both felt it was the best part of our Belizian adventure which included San Pedro, Caye Caulker, San Ignacio and the Chaa Creek Lodge. Our driver, Noah Gordon was also very kind and helpful. We were running a little late and he waited for us at the pick-up point. Afterward, we enjoyed a delicious meal together. They provided towels for the showers and everything we needed to make it a great experience.
Response from the operator: Grant, thank you for such amazing words! We are thrilled to read all about your amazing experience and how James and Noah made the experience even better. We are in total agreement that James, our guide, is passionate not only about the tour itself but the history, geology and everything related to the ATM cave; glad you felt safe, entertained and informed. Noah is amazing too, we will be sure to mention that his patience and kindness made the trip a memorable one. And thank you for mentioning that the ATM cave was the best part of your Belize adventure: we are honored to be a part of making that happen for you and your son. We look forward to welcoming you both again when you are in Belize next time! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team

Response from the operator: Cassaundra, thank you for saying that! We are in total agreement with you in saying that this is a once in a lifetime experience. And we are also in complete agreement that James is exceptional! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team

Why this scores 73
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
ATM Cave Tour from San Ignacio Actun Tunichil Muknal: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for San Ignacio.
How much does ATM Cave Tour from San Ignacio Actun Tunichil Muknal cost?
+
Prices start at $140 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in San Ignacio usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does ATM Cave Tour from San Ignacio Actun Tunichil Muknal take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in San Ignacio is not rushed.
Is ATM Cave Tour from San Ignacio Actun Tunichil Muknal worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 17 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in San Ignacio, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule ATM Cave Tour from San Ignacio Actun Tunichil Muknal?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is ATM Cave Tour from San Ignacio Actun Tunichil Muknal suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book ATM Cave Tour from San Ignacio Actun Tunichil Muknal?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in San Ignacio can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in San Ignacio and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does ATM Cave Tour from San Ignacio Actun Tunichil Muknal start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central San Ignacio within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in San Ignacio?
+
On Outty we rank every San Ignacio experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave Tour and Picnic, Xunantunich and Cave Tubing Combo Tour from San Ignacio, Tikal SUNSET, Archeological focus and Wildlife Spotting Tour (South and East). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit San Ignacio?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in San Ignacio?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
