Fantastic Immersive Zapotec Experiences
César designed an amazing day for a party of 2. This is an exclusive, high value, small party tour!!! César attends to every detail, adjusting on the fly to optimize our personal experience. César makes a point of engaging family and the local community: Mother and girlfriend are fantastic cooks and smiling hostesses. Dad plays the sax for wedding celebrations and multi-week funeral processions (he’s always busy), brother is an artist and a painter… friend operates an ancestral mescal distillery, uncle loved sharing his artisanal distillery… He knows the shepherds, they appreciated us stopping for a bit and offering a shot of Mezcal! César and a local picked us up and dropped us off at our Oaxaca City Hotel. We returned just in time to join a Street Parade with our bottle of Mezcal!!! If u want to get outside the city and immerse in an intimate Zapotec experience, book this activity. I highly recommend spending the day with César and his ecosystem!!!

Incredible Mezcal Tour Outside Oaxaca with César!
Our mezcal tour was absolutely amazing! From start to finish, César was an incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and flexible guide. We had the chance to customize the itinerary to fit our interests, and César was so understanding when we made adjustments along the way. Before this tour, I was never a fan of mezcal, but after learning so much and trying different varieties, I now love can say I truly enjoy a good mezcal. The mezcal tastings were eye-opening and we learned so much. The pulque tasting was also delicious and it was a great way to start the day. The whole day was absolutely amazing! Cesar and his family are so welcoming, and we truly felt like we were treated as friends, not just tourists. There was not a single moment we felt rushed- we were at our own pace on our personalized and private tour, going at our pace. This tour was unforgettable and easily one of our favorite days in Oaxaca. Highly recommend this tour with César!

Informative, laid-back, friendly private mezcal tour
Two friends and I were interested in learning more about small-batch Mezcal production and gravitated to this tour over larger bus tours. We loved having our private guide, Cesar, who invited us into his family’s home for two meals, let us try our hand at rolling a tortilla onto a comal, showed us his uncle’s agave farm, his cousin’s small-batch mezcal distillery and a friend’s larger, but still small-scale, Mezcal distillery. We got to ride in a tuk-tuk and walk and around agave fields. Cesar took very good care of us and i highly recommend this tour.

Amazing authentic experience of Oaxaca (and delicious mezcal!)
César, the guide and visionary behind Yudiza Tours is fantastic. He cares deeply for his community and is proud to share his life and family with visitors. I’ve rarely found tour experiences like this, and highly recommend it. My wife and I did a day-long mezcal distillery tour, which was much more than just about mezcal. César grew up in San Dionisio Ocotepec and so is familiar with this beautiful area of Oaxaca. We learned about the town, the culture and daily life for Zapotec community’s like his, and got to meet his family. Pick-up and drop-off in Oaxaca City was seamless and the drive out to the country was beautiful. César’s mother and their family friends cooked a delicious meal in a lovely traditional setting in their home. For the mezcal, César took us to both ancestral and artisanal distilleries. Although there was no production happening at this time (it was a very dry time in the season), the producers explained everything, showed us the sites, and provided generous tastings. We also got to walk around in the agave fields. (If you want to be guaranteed to see production, you probably have to go to an industrial distillery, but then you’d miss out on a lot of other interesting things; it’s well worth it to see the smaller production and to support these local distillers; from what I can see from other people who have done this tour, it’s very common that you do get to see and even participate in the production). So, if you want to really get a sense of life outside the big city, to taste some great mezcal and to meet the local people who make it, take a tour with César! If we were staying longer, we would have considered some of the other experiences he offers, too. Thanks César!!

Highly recommended
Amazing tour with César and his family! Definitely recommended if you want something unique and personalized. Not a package tour at all (I mean this in the best way possible). Learned so much about mezcal at three different distilleries (all friends of César), ate a great lunch with his family, played with his dogs, explored his village, and got a ride back to Oaxaca. A very special day.

Why this scores 70
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Artisanal Mezcal distillery in an authentic Zapotec village: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oaxaca City.
How much does Artisanal Mezcal distillery in an authentic Zapotec village cost?
+
Prices start at $122 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oaxaca City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Artisanal Mezcal distillery in an authentic Zapotec village take?
+
Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oaxaca City is not rushed.
Is Artisanal Mezcal distillery in an authentic Zapotec village worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 14 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oaxaca City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Artisanal Mezcal distillery in an authentic Zapotec village?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Artisanal Mezcal distillery in an authentic Zapotec village suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Artisanal Mezcal distillery in an authentic Zapotec village?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oaxaca City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oaxaca City and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Artisanal Mezcal distillery in an authentic Zapotec village start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oaxaca City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Oaxaca City?
+
On Outty we rank every Oaxaca City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include AUTHENTIC OAXACA CULTURAL FOOD TOUR, eat like a local., Hierve el Agua 2.5 hours, Mitla, Tule, Rugs and Mezcal for a Day, Traditional Oaxaqueña Cooking with Grandma's Recipes. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Oaxaca City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Oaxaca City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
