    Beautiful caves, logistical mess

Memi was our tour guide. She was great and very nice and most of the things that were not great were out of her control. The caves are beautiful and well worth seeing. But the vast majority of the tour was driving or standing in line. For us, the day was not great. The island was very busy and we had to wait in line in the sweltering sun for nearly 2 hours for the 10 minute boat trip into the cave. It was a great 10 minutes but with the travel times and waiting, we never made it to the wine tasting. Also, out of all the tour guide operating companies I dealt with in through Viator while Greece, this one was by far the worst for communication. We were standing outside the terminal right in front of the group and didn’t realize it because I was never told what to look for. The name of the company on the sign she was holding did not match the name of the company on the booking details. I was never told who to look for. Thankfully I did receive a message as I was waiting that was able to direct me to the guide but could have been a lot easier if I had known ahead of time exactly what to look for. Also, it was a very hot day. The AC on the bus was practically nonexistent. It was on, but it wasn’t working very well. The island of Kefalonia was my favorite island we visited on our cruise, but this was not my favorite day. I think this company has some logistical challenges they need to work on.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the caves and that Memi made a positive impression. We will certainly pass along your kind words to her. We are sorry that your experience did not fully meet your expectations. Unfortunately, on the day of your visit, three cruise ships arrived simultaneously, creating exceptionally high visitor volumes across the island. While we do our best to manage schedules and minimize waiting times, some delays at popular attractions are beyond our control, particularly during peak cruise days. We also appreciate your comments regarding communication. We understand how frustrating it can be to have difficulty locating your group, and we will review our pre-tour instructions to ensure meeting point details and company identification are communicated more clearly in the future. Regarding the wine tasting, the extended wait times at the cave unfortunately impacted the day's schedule. We understand your disappointment and regret that you were unable to enjoy every aspect of the tour as planned. Thank you again for your honest feedback. We are pleased that Kefalonia was your favorite island, and we hope you left with wonderful memories of its natural beauty despite the challenges of a particularly busy day.

Skip if 3 ships will be at the dock

We were supposed to have 4 stops on the tour. Because there were 3 cruise ships, one stop took longer than expected and we didn’t get to finish with the wine tasting which is what I wanted out of the tour. The guide and driver did their best and it’s not their fault for the 3 stars. It was just a mess. We didn’t even make it back in time to visit the stores which was disappointing as well.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. As you noted, our guide and driver worked hard to make the most of the day despite unusually high traffic and congestion caused by multiple cruise ships in port. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control affected the timing of some scheduled stops, including the wine tasting experience you were looking forward to. We understand how disappointing it is when an itinerary cannot be completed as planned, and we appreciate your recognition of our team's efforts under challenging conditions. Your feedback is valuable, and we will continue to monitor scheduling and logistics to provide the best possible experience for our guests. Thank you for choosing to tour with us, and we hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a more seamless experience in the future.

Very informative tour of the island of Kafanos

Guide Katerina was waiting for us right outside the terminal. Not a very large group…just right! She was extremely informative about the island and its history and culture. Very attentive making sure we were all doing good and enjoying ourselves. She was one of the nicest guides we had on our trip. Bus driver was excellent too. Highly recommend!

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that you had such a great experience with Katerina and our driver. It’s fantastic that you enjoyed the small group size, found the tour informative, and appreciated Katerina’s attentiveness and warm personality. We’re so glad she helped make your visit memorable. Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we hope to welcome you back on another tour soon!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cephalonia.

How much does Argostoli Shorex: Drogarati & Melissani Caves with Wine Tasting cost?

    +

Prices start at $53 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cephalonia usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Argostoli Shorex: Drogarati & Melissani Caves with Wine Tasting take?

    +

Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cephalonia is not rushed.

Is Argostoli Shorex: Drogarati & Melissani Caves with Wine Tasting worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.5/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cephalonia, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Argostoli Shorex: Drogarati & Melissani Caves with Wine Tasting?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Argostoli Shorex: Drogarati & Melissani Caves with Wine Tasting suitable for kids and families?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cephalonia can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cephalonia and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Cephalonia?

    +

On Outty we rank every Cephalonia experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include "Dreamy cruise"Daily Cruise from Argostoli harbour with a traditional Greek boat, "QueenBee" Full-Day Boat Trip with Lunch, Kefalonia Wine Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cephalonia?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cephalonia?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
