Incredible trekking experience to Mardi and ABC

I did Mardi Himal & ABC treks with Shikhar Adventure, a 12-day trekking package. It was an incredible experience from planning of the trek to the end of finishing the trek with the mountain guide Sun. First, my contact person is Dambar. We communicated in WhatsApp. He is very responsive. Whenever I sent him messages/ questions, he would always respond very promptly in great full details, even in late evening hours. I changed my itinerary many times, changed my number of trekkers, changed the start trekking date… he was still very patient to facilitate all my changes. The whole planning process was smooth and professional. He would arrange everything, like mountain permits, domestic flight booking, lending of duffel bag, sleeping bag. Whatever requests, just asked and he would try his very best to help! After finishing the trek, it was also a surprise that he and his son gave me a motorcycle ride for a city tour at Kathmandu. He also stayed late to wait for me to spend good enough time to do sightseeing and send me back to hotel late evening. It was an amazing experience to travel on a motorcycle in a busy traffic at Kathmandu! Big thanks to Dambar and his son! Second, regarding the trekking part, it was an incredible experience to trek with mountain guide Sun. Sun, as his name, has always a sunny big smile. He talks perfect English. He is a very happy and caring person. He is no doubt very knowledgeable about the trek and is very aware of the mountain risk. Trekking with him is a peace of mind. He is always very willing to take great photos for you, stop and wait whenever I felt tried or needed a rest. More importantly, he has very good relationships with people, good network with people in the tea houses throughout the trek. He is talkative and happy to share. He knew where the best spot to stay , where the best scenery views are. He did good planning when to have short and long trekking days so I could rest well enough. He is flexible in pacing. He is a guide and also a porter for me. In the last day of trekking, I felt pretty sick. I barely could walk. He walked up and down to buy me food to eat, taking extreme care of me. At the very last downhill, he carried me on his back and his shoulder to send me to the jeep. It was a busy day of jeep service, but he made his best effort to talk to other guides to find me a seat at the jeep, so I could travel back to Pokhara as soon as possible for a better rest. With no doubts, he is very strong, a super Porter guide ever! My heartfelt thanks to Sun! If you look for a tour operator and trekking guide in Nepal, Shikhar Adventure and Sun is your must-go!!

Response from the operator: Dear Jeff, Namaste, Thank you so much for your wonderful and detailed review. It truly means a lot to all of us at Shikhar Adventure. We’re especially happy to hear that your Mardi Himal and ABC trek was such a memorable experience from start to finish. Dambar will be very glad to know his support, flexibility, and care during the planning (and even your Kathmandu city ride!) made a positive difference to your journey. Your kind words about our guide Sun are deeply appreciated. He is indeed a very dedicated, caring, and strong guide, and we are proud to have him on our team. We’re especially touched to hear how he supported you when you were not feeling well, that is the level of care we always strive to provide. Thank you again for trusting Shikhar Adventure and for recommending us so warmly. It was a pleasure to be part of your Himalayan journey, and we truly hope to welcome you back to Nepal for another adventure in the future. Warm regards, Shikhar Adventure Team

Incredible service and a perfect short trek

I recently booked with Shikhar Adventure and was honestly blown away by the service. Our guide was super professional! Always showed up early and really knew how to set a comfortable pace so we didn't burn out. The Jeep was a major highlight too. It actually had seatbelts and a very skilled driver, which made the mountain roads feel much safer. Dambar(The guide) even carried a first-aid kit and knew all the best local food spots, so we ate really well the whole time. He also took some of the best photos of the trip for us! The best part was finishing the trek to find cold bottles of water waiting in the car. Such a thoughtful touch for a very reasonable price. It didn't feel like a generic tour at all. Just a heads up, the roads are definitely bumpy, so bring motion sickness meds if you’re sensitive. Highly recommend Mr. Thapa and Shikara Adventure if you want a stress-free Himalayan experience!

Response from the operator: Dear Sann, Namaste 🙏 and thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! We are truly delighted to hear that your Ama Yangri Trek was enjoyable and comfortable. Dambar and our team always strive to make every trek personalized and memorable, so it’s wonderful to know that the pacing, food spots, photos, and even the little touches like cold water made a difference for you. We also appreciate your note about the bumpy roads — it’s a thoughtful tip for future trekkers! Your kind words mean a lot to Mr. Thapa and the entire Shikhar Adventure family. We hope to welcome you on another Himalayan adventure soon! Safe travels and warm regards, Shikhar Adventure Team

Shikhar Adventure

This time choosing to come to Nepal for winter walks, while I have been following the Facebook page about Nepal walks, found that Dambar Thapa, owner of Shikhar Adventure, answered the questions of hikers on Facebook very quickly and thoroughly, giving me a very professional feeling. So in my private message he asked him to take the trip and price of ABC and Mardi Himal combined trek, the same Dambar responded very quickly, answered my question in detail, and finally decided to take a person with Shikhar Adventure to take this walk. And Dambar arranged a person and two positions (guide and coach) Sun Bahadur for me, during the 9 days of walking day, he always cared very much about me, like his big brother cared for his sister as impeccable, and he often shows a smile, gives a very kind feeling, his English is also very fluent. When I see some special plants or animals along the way during the walk, he will immediately introduce me. The next time I go to Nepal for a walk, I will call Shikhar Adventure to help arrange everything.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review. We are truly humbled and grateful that you chose Shikhar Adventure for your winter trek in Nepal. It means a lot to us that our responses and support during your planning stage gave you confidence and peace of mind. Helping trekkers with honest, timely, and detailed information is something we genuinely enjoy, and we’re very happy this made a positive difference for you. We are especially thankful for your warm words about Sun Bahadur. Knowing that he cared for you like family, guided you safely, shared knowledge about nature, and always did so with a smile brings us great joy. Your experience is exactly what we hope every trekker feels—safe, supported, and truly connected to the mountains and culture. Thank you for trusting us as a solo trekker and for sharing your experience so generously. Your recommendation means more to us than words can express. Whenever you decide to return to Nepal, we would be honored to welcome you again and help arrange another beautiful journey. Until then, we wish you good health and many wonderful adventures ahead. Warm Regards, Shikhar Adventure Team,

Excellent service for ABC Trek. Took the package without a guide, only porter, and everything was managed well. Professional team and good support. Would recommend!

Annapurna Base Camp Trek: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.

How much does Annapurna Base Camp Trek cost?

+

Prices start at $870 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Annapurna Base Camp Trek take?

+

Plan for about 288 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.

Is Annapurna Base Camp Trek worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Annapurna Base Camp Trek?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Annapurna Base Camp Trek suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 18. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 288-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Annapurna Base Camp Trek?

+

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 288-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Annapurna Base Camp Trek start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?

+

On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour | UNESCO World Heritage sites, Manaslu Circuit Trek, Classic Everest Base Camp Trek. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kathmandu?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
