Wow!! Check this out while in Cancun!
Our guide, Alvaro, is of Mayan descent. He throughly explained the past and current Mayan customs and communities. After the Tulum ruins we swam with sea turtles! What an experience! We ate a traditional Mexican lunch at a local eatery and snorkeled to see beautiful coral reefs.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We're thrilled to hear that Alvaro, with his deep Mayan heritage and knowledge, made the tour so meaningful for you. Swimming with sea turtles and snorkeling around the coral reefs truly makes for an unforgettable adventure, and we’re so glad you enjoyed the traditional Mexican lunch as well. We look forward to welcoming you back for more incredible experiences in the future!

Not what I had hoped for
We were picked up one hour late. We were crammed into a small van with seriously no leg room. Very uncomfortable ride. Our guide was more interested in flirting with some women than being a guide. Tulum was underwhelming. Mostly because our guide was not that informative. Akumal beach was super crowded and nearly impossible to snorkel without getting kicked or kicking someone. The water was murky and hard to see the turtles. The Cenote was very cool. The lunch was really tasty at the restaurant. The sack lunch they give you as you board the van was an awful try at a bologna sandwich. Try a bagel or croissant instead. Just not good money spent for what the excursion was.
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your feedback with us! We’re glad to hear there were parts of the experience you enjoyed, though it sounds like there were areas where we could have done better. Your insights are valuable to us, and we’ll use them to enhance future experiences. We hope to welcome you back and exceed your expectations next time!

Interesting Enough
The tour was as described and expected. I will list the pros and cons. I did not like the tour, my partner loved it. It felt way too tourist trap vibes and was expensive. My partner liked seeing the ruins and turtles and didn't mind the general tourist crowded feel. .
Response from the operator: Hello Ashlee, thank you for your comment, we appreciate your opinion about the experience of this tour. Tulum is one of the most popular archaeological sites in Mexico, and the experience depends on what type of tour you are looking for, however, we invite you to check out our other tours, where you can get a variety of activities to enjoy according to your interests and schedule throughout the Mexican Caribbean, we hope to see you again soon!

Turtles, ruins, Lunch and small group were great!
The tour operator picked us up right on time. They provided breakfast but since the pickup time was at 9:15 we had already ate. There were only 5 of us so the tour stayed on time since we didn't have to be waiting on people. Tour operator was very knowledgeable about the Tulum ruins. The swimming with turtles part did not involve a boat as I was told it would but it didn't matter as we saw 4 and got good pictures. I ask for snorkel fins but was told we didn't need them. I wish I had gotten them as this was a big workout without them. The lunch was very good and we only had to pay for drinks. This was a very good tour and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Response from the operator: Hello! We appreciate all your comments and we are glad that this tour met your expectations, we are constantly working hard to give you the best memories in the Mexican Caribbean. We are going to pass your comments to our guide to continue doing an excellent job. We hope to see you soon in another adventure with us!

Overall disappointing tour
This experience definitely could’ve been better. Firstly, I was told the incorrect pickup time, nearly 3 hours early. I even confirmed two days before my tour. On the day of, I waited around for 15 minutes before calling only to be informed I wasn’t going to be picked up for 3 hours. Not a great start. When the new time came around the bus was on time. We visited Tulum first where we were dropped off and passed to a different guide inside rather than our guide going with us. We started the tour so late (left Playa around 10 AM) that by the time we got to Tulum it was miserably crowded and hot. Afterward we got photos at the large Tulum sign which was pretty cool. After we went to Akumal, where we were again shepherded to another guide for snorkeling. After changing and getting our life vests, my group stood around for 20 minutes in the sun, waiting on the guides. Once in the water we did see four turtles and a few fish, but again, by afternoon it was CROWDED! So packed you couldn’t even swim without kicking someone. We were only allowed to snorkel with the turtles for 20 minutes which was a huge disappointment since the tour description states it’s one hour snorkelling. We had free time at the beach and did not eat lunch until after that, around 3:30pm. It was pretty tasty but eating so late wasn’t ideal. Overall pretty disappointed for the price.
Response from the operator: Hi Miranda, thank you for your comment which helps us to know our opportunities to grow and offer a better service. Due to a human error, we sent an incorrect time for your pickup, and we are sorry you had to wait at your hotel. You visited the Riviera Maya in a high season due to the fact that Quintana Roo received a large number of tourists, besides it is spring at this time of the year the weather is usually hot. We have different certified guides in each location that are specialized in their areas. Thank you for your understanding and we invite you to visit the Riviera Maya in another season to live the experience in a different way, see you soon!

Is Amazing Adventure in Akumal: Swim with turtles & Tulum Ruins worth it?
+

How far in advance should I book Amazing Adventure in Akumal: Swim with turtles & Tulum Ruins?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tulum can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tulum and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Tulum?
+
On Outty we rank every Tulum experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tulum Ruins, Turtles in Akumal and Cenote tour, Tulum Guided Tour, Magical Cenote, Lagoon Snorkeling and Beachside Lunch, Chichén Itzá, Cenote and Valladolid with Lunch and transportation. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tulum?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tulum?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
