Experience the thrill of ascending to heights offering 360-degree views of the nearby Cook Inlet and interior Chugach mountains. Gaze at deep, glaciated, u-shaped valleys, and giant ridge lines defining the landscape. Imagine pristine, treeless, tundra loaded with vegetation that you can touch, taste, and feel. If you have never seen alpine before, prepare to be amazed! Alpine trekking is an incredibly unique way to see the landscape. You can see endless miles of mountainous terrain. On a clear day, we can even see Mt. Denali hundreds of miles away! Plus, once you're on top, the terrain can be fairly flat, making the trekking a truly enjoyable experience. During the tour, we may see moose, bear, Dall sheep, mountain goats, and a variety of small mammals like arctic squirrels and marmots. There are also plenty of birds to gaze at like bald eagles, thrushes, chickadees, and jays. This is one of our favorite ways to experience Alaska and the Chugach State Park.

What you'll see and do
We will visit either Rendezvous Mile High Ridgeline, two of the best ridgelines in the entire Chugach State Park. They feature both alpine scenes and 360 views of the Anchorage Bowl. We'll determine which location we visit based on weather and group ability the day of the hike. Ridgeline trekking is an incredibly unique way to see the landscape. While the ascent can be tough, once you arrive at the top, it is truly remarkable. You can see forever! On a clear day, we can even see Mt. Denali hundreds of miles away! Plus, the terrain can be fairly flat, making the trekking a truly enjoyable experience. During the tour, we may see moose, bear, Dall sheep, mountain goats, and a variety of small mammals like arctic squirrels and marmots. There are also plenty of birds to gaze at like bald eagles, thrushes, chickadees, and jays. This is one of our favorite ways to hike Alaska and the Chugach State Park. - Experience Suggestions: You should have a small amount of hiking experience before attempting this hike, or, be in good physical condition. At a minimum, you should be able to walk at least 8 miles on flat pavement, or 5 miles of uneven rolling terrain over the course of 4 hours. You should also be able to easily climb about 150 flights of stairs over the duration of the hike. Many parts of trail are steep and hilly, placing additional stress on areas of the body not impacted by level terrain. Not recommended for those with cardiac or respiratory issues/illness. May be difficult for those with severe joint issues.

Alaskan Alpine Hike
Earlier this month we had the pleasure of having Todd as our guide on this overcast 5 hour afternoon trek in the Chugach Mts. Todd kept a great pace and provided a wonderful running commentary of the geology of the area, local flowers, vegetation, trees and animals that inhabit these mountains. We finished the hike at a beautiful waterfall in another location watching a few salmon running upstream. It’s evident that Todd’s job is his passion and his hobby. He gave us great recommendations for restaurants in Anchorage as well.

Good Hike Despite The Weather
We booked for the 6 hour hike but due to awful weather we only managed 2 hours. The guide was very understanding and accommodated our request for a shorter hike. Despite the weather the hike was good and the scenery beautiful. The guide was knowledgeable and informative and we enjoyed the hike.

Challenging and amazing
It was an amazing hike and our guide Nick was very good; educational and friendly. Totally worth it! There was snow in the last section and our guide was prepared for us, he had micro spikes for all of us to use. I would go back anytime.

Fantastic
I know we can all use AllTrails app to hike, but let me tell you as a hiker you WANT to use these guides especially in bear country. More importantly you want to learn about the area. Who can’t just use a trail app to walk a trail. But the experience is very different I have hiked for years and have done both. But in Alaska this is the way to go!!! Good luck and safe hiking.
Response from the operator: When guests ask, "why use a guide?" I think this is the best reason why. There are no secrets in the age of the internet, anyone can find and do anything. But don't you want to LEARN about what you are doing and looking at? I think back about before I entered tourism, and if I knew then what I know now, guided tours would have been higher on my list. I took exactly 1 guided tour when I lived in Europe (Fort and Limestone mines in Maastricht NL, for those wondering), and I think about what I learned on that tour ALL THE TIME. Fantastic Hike, guide and beautiful scenery.
Excellent hike with beautiful scenery. Saw a bull moose, hiked to the top and it was just stunning. Our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend this hike.
