What you get
About this experience
This is the one and only Original Alpaca Picnic Experience. While shooting for Quechua Benefit, a nonprofit supporting economic benefits for underserved communities in the Peruvian highlands, professional travel, nature & humanitarian photographer Wasim Muklashy met Amanda Vandenbosch, one of the world's premiere alpaca breeders & Peru-trained alpaca judges. That encounter blossomed into a friendship which led to his living & working at Flying Dutchman Alpacas, Amanda's family farm in Bend, OR during part of the pandemic year. Taking their morning coffee & lunch in the alpaca pasture was pure therapy & they both realized that if these floofs were therapeutic to them, they'd be therapeutic to ALL. So here they are, offering an experience with a group of floofs guaranteed to put smiles on the faces of those in the foulest of moods. There is no other activity that will give you this level of time, experience, education and interaction with the magical creatures that are the alpaca.

An amazing journey in a pasture!
This was one of the funnest parts of our trip. We giggled and had a great time feeding the alpacas and seeing the babies. Such an inquisitive beautiful animal! Guide was amazing and we learned so much! Lunch was amazing! I would definitely do this again!!! Thank you!

AMAZING!!! Highlight of Our Bend Trip!!
Please go support this wonderful farm! We had a lovely experience of many alpacas surrounding us --letting us pet and feed them. It was such a sweet experience. It was the highlight of our trip!

A very fun and unique experience!
This was one of me and my family's favorite activities we did during our recent trip to central Oregon! From start to finish it was a wonderful experience! Louisa met us at a cute little cafe - they offered us all free drinks and then we followed Louisa in our car for a short drive to the ranch. We were greeted by the owner Amanda and her adorable little dog Mack. Amanda was very engaging and talked with us about her experiences as an equine and alpaca judge and talked about the alpacas and what we can expect with the llama and alpacas we would be meeting during our visit. We were then greeted by several alpacas led by this beautiful Llama named Dream Bella. She was so regal and sweet and stayed with us the whole time we were there. Amanda said she doesn't normally do that with guests so we felt pretty special. :) We were taken out to the field to a beautifully adorned picnic table and were given grain to feed the many different colored alpacas that were suddenly around us. It was so fun to feed them and to get to know them all! Then they brought out a wonderful charcuterie board and our delicious lunches, and even had a gluten free lunch for me! While we ate the alpacas hung around us and we enjoyed seeing them and then spent more time with them and also Amanda and Louisa after we finished our lunches. The ranch was very beautiful with the mountains in the distance. On our way back to our resort we stopped in Sisters to the Alpaca's by Design store to purchase items made with the fleece from these alpacas. It was such a wonderful day! I am sorry I don't live closer because I would definitely visit more often! I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a fun filled and unique family day!

Why this scores 60
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Alpaca Picnic Experience in Oregon: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bend.
How much does Alpaca Picnic Experience in Oregon cost?
+
Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bend usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Alpaca Picnic Experience in Oregon take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bend is not rushed.
Is Alpaca Picnic Experience in Oregon worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bend, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Alpaca Picnic Experience in Oregon?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Alpaca Picnic Experience in Oregon suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Alpaca Picnic Experience in Oregon?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bend can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bend and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Alpaca Picnic Experience in Oregon start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bend within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Bend?
+
Bend, OR packs its best experiences into walkable neighborhoods, local food, and day trips nearby. Outty ranks every bookable tour and activity in Bend by rating quality, review depth, booking demand and value, so you can see the standouts before you book. On Outty we rank every Bend experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Electric Bike Tour of Bend & Deschutes River, 2 Hour High Cascades Scenic ATV Tour in Bend Oregon, Chocolate Tour Including Hot Chocolate and Samples. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Bend?
+
Spring and fall bring the best weather and lighter crowds in Bend, while summer has the widest choice of tours and evening activities. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Bend?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
