We had a great time! Our guide kept us moving and knew where to look to make sure we saw plenty of turtles, rays and fish and to make sure we were responsible while interacting with the sea life!

WE LOVE AKUMAL EXCURSIONS is top notch. Martin was a phenomenal guide! Patient with my kids, took the time to explain everything we saw👍. We saw at least 8 Turtles, 2 stingrays, lots of tropical fish, an eel, and a huge lobster. And it was just our family on the tour. Highly recommend!

Incredible Experience, but Very Crowded Swimming

Swimming with the turtles was something we had never experienced before, and it was truly amazing to be that close to them. They swim right past you, and it feels like such a unique, once-in-a-lifetime moment. We also saw stingrays and a variety of fish. That said, the area was very crowded. There were a lot of people in the water at the same time, and the tour felt quite rushed. Because of the volume of visitors, it did make us question whether it’s the healthiest environment for the turtles. Even with that, we still enjoyed the experience—it’s hard not to when you’re that close to such incredible animals. And we do appreciate that tourism here likely helps support conservation efforts and preservation of the area. Overall, it’s an unforgettable experience, but just be prepared for the crowds and a quicker-paced tour than you might expect.

Response from the operator: Hi Angela! It's a pleasure to reach out to you. We're checking if your turtle swimming experience was with our company, and unfortunately, we don't find any information that confirms you made a reservation with us. We're sorry to hear your tour was crowded and short on time, but we believe this might be a mix-up. We do turtle swimming tours, but with small and private groups, not with large crowds, and we always keep away from big tourist groups. Plus, our tour has a water time of about 1 hour 15-20 minutes, which is the maximum allowed by the federal government for protected areas. We imagine you were given a shorter tour, and that's why you felt that way, which we regret. We'd greatly appreciate it if you could check the correct website or TripAdvisor profile of the company that offered you the tour. And please help us by removing this review, which probably doesn't belong to us. Thanks and regards!

Akumal turtle snorkeling

Surprisingly good experience, did not have great expectations due to many tourists, but Martin was a super guide, and we saw many sea turtles, we also got late GoPro photos of the trip, so definitely worth the money.

Akumal; Snorkeling with The Sea Turtles: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Playa del Carmen.

How much does Akumal; Snorkeling with The Sea Turtles cost?

+

Prices start at $500 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Playa del Carmen usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Akumal; Snorkeling with The Sea Turtles take?

+

Plan for about 1.2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Playa del Carmen is not rushed.

Is Akumal; Snorkeling with The Sea Turtles worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 53 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Playa del Carmen, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Akumal; Snorkeling with The Sea Turtles?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Akumal; Snorkeling with The Sea Turtles suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 6. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 1.2-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Akumal; Snorkeling with The Sea Turtles?

+

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Playa del Carmen can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Playa del Carmen and add a light layer if any part of the 1.2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Akumal; Snorkeling with The Sea Turtles start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Playa del Carmen within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Playa del Carmen?

+

On Outty we rank every Playa del Carmen experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Chichen Itza from Cancun : Cenote, Valladolid and Mayan Cuisine, Chichén Itzá, Cenote and Valladolid with Lunch and transportation, From Playa del Carmen ATV Adventure with Ziplines, Cenote. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Playa del Carmen?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Playa del Carmen?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
