Never pay for round trip up front. Horrible experience with Obi
Buyer beware! OBI tours was late to pick us up for our airport transfers from the St. Regis Punta Mita because their driver had a flat tire and OBI refused to refund the fare. We ended up having to pay twice for a ride to the airport. Our concierge put us in an SUV to get us there in time which was a bit of a mix up but thank goodness they did because the vehicle arrived at the St. Regis with a flat tire. When we asked for a refund of 1/2 of the amount paid, OBI responded: “Please note that because the incident was mechanical and not due to negligence or service refusal, it does not qualify for a refund.” In other words, their flat tire is not their problem and doesn’t qualify for a refund. What????
Response from the operator: We are truly sorry that you felt disappointed, but we must clarify the events with complete accuracy, as they did not occur in the way described, at all. Our team maintains detailed logs, screenshots, and time-stamped communications for every service, and in this case, the record is very clear: 1. Your vehicle and certified driver were on-site on time. Your assigned driver, Loreli Diaz, arrived before the scheduled pickup time at St. Regis- Punta Mita. We provided you with her name, vehicle description, and meeting instructions a day in advance, which'd you confirmed after responding to our email: "Perfecto! Muchas gracias!" 2. Further, you acknowledge the concierge mistakenly placed you in a different SUV. "Hola! The valet put us in another car and said it was yours!" In your own messages to us, you acknowledged that the hotel staff put you in the wrong vehicle, which belonged to another company. This was not an Obi Tours vehicle, nor an Obi Tours driver. As you were given instructions the day prior. Which again, you confirmed. 3. The flat tire occurred after you left in the wrong vehicle and we were told to move out of the main lobby section. Our driver was instructed by St. Regis staff to move from the loading zone shortly after she arrived because you were no longer there. During that relocation, she unfortunately got a flat tire — after you were already in the other SUV. 4. You did not return to meet your assigned driver, even after knowing you where on the wrong vehicle with wrong person. We immediately acted to help in good faith and waited for you to come back upon noticing that you were placed in the wrong vehicle and offered to have the correct driver meet you at the lobby. You instead proceeded with the ride provided by the concierge wrongfully. 5. No service refusal occurred on our end. Your original return service was available, the driver was present, and transportation was ready. The issue resulted from a mix-up by the concierge staff and your decision to depart with a different company yet still knowing you where on the wrong vehicle. 6. Refunds cannot be issued when service was delivered, the driver was on-site, and the guest elects to take a different vehicle. This is standard practice across all private transportation services. We still incurred: • Driver staffing costs • Vehicle allocation • Scheduling block-out • Fuel and logistics expenses Your message stating “the concierge put us in the wrong SUV” and eventually “we left with the other vehicle” was saved for our records. Our Commitment to Future Guests: Obi Tours is a veteran-owned, family-run transportation service with thousands of satisfied travelers, and we stand by our professionalism and honesty. We also will encourage all future guests to verify the driver's name, company, and vehicle upon pickup — especially at hotels where multiple vendors operate simultaneously. Our airport pickup with Obi Tours was truly exceptional from start to finish! We stayed at Conrad Punta de Mita in Higuera Blanca, and the private round-trip transfer made our arrival and departure completely stress-free. The vehicle was comfortable and spotless, and having cold beer and water on board was such a thoughtful touch. Also, having a personalized sign to welcome us, made it easier to identify the staff at Obi Tours. What really set this experience apart was how engaging and knowledgeable our driver was. Along the way, we received fascinating history lessons about the region, local culture, and hidden gems we would have never discovered on our own. This inspired us so much that we ended up booking nearly all the tours on Obi Tours’ list, each one turning out to be just as amazing. The transfer itself was smooth, punctual, and reliable, making us feel completely taken care of. It’s rare to find a service that combines comfort, entertainment, and cultural insight so seamlessly. We already know we’ll be coming back next year to relive the entire experience with Obi Tours.
