1. W.E.B. DuBois Center

   The W. E. B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture is one of Ghana’s most important historical and cultural landmarks.the renowned American historian, sociologist, civil rights activist, and Pan-Africanist. Du Bois moved to Ghana in 1961 at the invitation of Kwame Nkrumah to work on the Encyclopedia Africana project. He spent the final years of his life in Ghana and became a Ghanaian citizen before his death in 1963. * The Mausoleum – The final resting place of W. E. B. Du Bois and his wife, Shirley Graham Du Bois. * Museum – Displays photographs, personal belongings, manuscripts, books, awards, and memorabilia from Du Bois’s life. * Library – Houses books and research materials on African history and Pan-Africanism. * Memorial Gardens – A peaceful area with statues and landscaped grounds for reflection. The centre provides visitors with a deeper understanding of: * Pan-Africanism and the African diaspora * Ghana’s role in the struggle for African independence

2. National Museum of Ghana

   The National Museum of Ghana is the oldest and largest museum in Ghana. It is located on Barnes Road, Adabraka, in the heart of Accra. Opened on 5 March 1957, on the eve of Ghana’s independence, the museum preserves and showcases the country’s rich cultural heritage through archaeology, ethnography, and fine art. It is managed by the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board. 3. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

   The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum is one of Ghana’s most visited historical attractions. It honors Kwame Nkrumah, who led Ghana to independence from British colonial rule on 6 March 1957 and became the country’s first President. The park is located in central Accra on the site where Ghana’s independence was declared. Museum Highlights The museum showcases the life and legacy of Kwame Nkrumah through: * Personal belongings, books, and photographs * Historic documents and speeches * Gifts presented by world leaders * Interactive exhibits on Ghana’s independence movement * Displays about Pan-Africanism and Nkrumah’s leadership

4. Ussher Fort and Museum

   The Ussher Fort is one of Ghana’s oldest colonial forts and an important historical landmark located in the historic district of Usshertown, Accra. Originally built by the Dutch in 1649 as Fort Crèvecœur, it was later taken over by the British in 1868 and renamed Ussher Fort after British administrator Herbert Taylor Ussher. Historical Significance * Served as a major trading post along the Gold Coast. * Was used during the transatlantic slave trade, where enslaved Africans were held in dungeons before being transported across the Atlantic. * Played a strategic role in European colonial rivalry along the coast of Ghana. * Today, it stands as a reminder of Ghana’s colonial past and the resilience of its people.

5. Osu Castle

   Osu Castle, also known as Fort Christiansborg or Christiansborg Castle, is one of Ghana’s most historically significant landmarks. Built in 1661 by the Danes on the Gulf of Guinea, the castle served multiple roles over the centuries: * It was a major European trading fort. * It played a role in the transatlantic slave trade, where enslaved Africans were imprisoned before being shipped overseas. * It later became the seat of government during British colonial rule. * After Ghana’s independence, it served as the official residence and office of the President of Ghana until the presidency moved to Jubilee House in 2013. The castle is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising the forts and castles along Ghana’s coast because of its importance in the history of European colonialism and the Atlantic slave trade. It has also been developed as a museum and heritage site, preserving its historical significance
