5days Inca Trail - Fantastic journey

We spent five fantastic days on the Inca Trail with Inkayni Peru Tours, and we were extremely happy with the organisation and the whole experience. We were incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful guide as Ronald! He is a highly knowledgeable and talented guide who shared a wealth of information with us, helped us through the challenging moments, and kept the atmosphere positive and fun throughout the entire trek. What made the experience even more special was the authentic, local perspective he gave us. Through his knowledge and stories, he turned the trek into a truly spiritual journey for us. We would also like to give a special mention to our chef, Sabino, who prepared three absolutely wonderful meals for us every single day. It was incredible what he managed to create in the middle of the mountains! A huge thank you to the entire team for this wonderful, unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Best hike ever - Inkayni 5 day private Inka Trail hike to Macchu Piccu

We booked the private 5 day Inka trail hike and we loved it. We booked with Inkayni because they had a good reputation online. They did an excellent job on logistics for our trip. The porters and cook were friendly and hard working. We are vegan and gluten free (one of us has celiac disease) and the food was excellent and safe. Our guide, Edwin, was easy going and had excellent English. He connected well to our family, including our 11 year old daughter. Edwin had a good balance of being present and helpful while also giving us space to experience the Andes on our own. His guided tour of Machu Picchu was particularly excellent and informative. He made sure that we were safe at all times! The 5 day option allowed us to go slowly and not feel rushed - we saw wildlife and we especially appreciated the night camping on top of the mountain. The night in the hotel to rest was great before doing a tour of Macchu Pichu and the long ride home the next day. We originally booked the 5 day private tour with Inkayni because our group had an 11 year old and a 74 year old and we wanted to increase our chances of completing the hike. But we would highly recommend the 5 days private hike for anyone - the length of time was ideal and not rushed, and we saw some groups hiking that were not a good match together so we were glad to have a private group. We would definitely highly recommend booking with Inkayni and Edwin as a guide!

Ethical, sustainable and locally-owned: more than just a hike

We chose Inkayni because it is Peruvian-owned, a responsible employer insofar as its treatment of it employees is concerned (i.e. the maximum loads for its chasquis [porters] and sufficient payment) and is committed to the sustainability of the trail. Our expectations were far exceeded. Our guide, Freddie, was amiable, interested and interesting, and gave us so much more than just a routemap of the hike - he absorbed us all in Quechua culture and treated the exhibition as a pilgrimage more than anything. The hike was demanding at times (especially the high altitude bits) but we found it pleasantly manageable from a fitness perspective - possibly even gave poor Freddie a run for his money at times! A delight, thank you.

5 day Inca trail - once in a lifetime

We had an unbelievable experience with Freddy (our guide), chef Cristobal and his team of Chasqui’s. Freddy was knowledgeable, friendly and fun. He shared with us the history of this beautiful part of his country as well as giving us a deep insight into the culture and beliefs of the Inca and the Quechua people. His generosity with his time and his genuine nature made our trip incredibly special. He even put up with us racing up mountain passes and arriving in camp earlier than planned, often finding extra “adventures” for us. A special word for chef Cristobal - we’d have been delighted with the quality and quantity of food in a restaurant, to produce it at 12000 feet was beyond belief. Finally the team of Chasqui’s who make the entire adventure possible. They each carry 20kg of tent/cooking equipment/food and more up and down the trail. Having taken one of their packs for a brief stint we are in awe of them. They are the heroes of the trip and always friendly and with a smile. Inkayni is locally owned and run, which was partly why we chose them, but the product they deliver is second to none. We can’t recommend them highly enough.

    Excellent trip!

My husband, my dad, and I recently finished a five-day private trek on the Inca Trail with Inkayni. It was an incredible and perfect experience from start to finish! Our guide, Yiyo, was an excellent guide, a fun person with whom to travel, and he made the experience truly wonderful. Throughout the trip, he taught us history and showed us the various flora and fauna in the area. He read our needs well and always set the right pace for hiking and breaks. Yiyo made sure we were able to enjoy the trip and take in the beauty and wonder that is the Inca Trail. Our porters were also fantastic. In addition to being super strong and fast, they were attentive to our every need, and they always had friendly attitudes and smiles on their faces. Our chef, Sabino, could have worked in a 5 star restaurant. We could not believe some of the foods he was able to come up with! From booking through our hotel drop off after the trip, Inkayni and the team made the experience the best it could have been. Highly recommend!

5-Day Private Inca Trail Tour to Machu Picchu: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.

How much does 5-Day Private Inca Trail Tour to Machu Picchu cost?

    +

Prices start at $1,640 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 5-Day Private Inca Trail Tour to Machu Picchu take?

    +

Plan for about 120 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.

Is 5-Day Private Inca Trail Tour to Machu Picchu worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 32 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 5-Day Private Inca Trail Tour to Machu Picchu?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is 5-Day Private Inca Trail Tour to Machu Picchu suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 120-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book 5-Day Private Inca Trail Tour to Machu Picchu?

    +

Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 120-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 5-Day Private Inca Trail Tour to Machu Picchu start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cusco?

    +

On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Full-Day Humantay Lake Trek (Meals Included), Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cusco?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cusco?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

Is 5-Day Private Inca Trail Tour to Machu Picchu wheelchair or stroller accessible?

    +

The operator notes: Not recommended for pregnant travelers. If accessibility is critical, contact the operator after booking to confirm arrangements for your date.
