If you like Peated Whisky this is the trip for you!
The 5-Day Ultimate Islay Whisky Tour exceeded every expectation from start to finish! The distillery visits were world-class, offering incredible tastings and behind-the-scenes access to some of Scotland’s most iconic drams. Our guide, Jamie, truly made the experience unforgettable—his deep knowledge of local history brought every stop to life, and his seamless coordination kept the entire journey running effortlessly. It was the perfect blend of rich culture, stunning scenery, and top-tier whisky. As soon as next year's dates are released for the Speyside tour, I will be the first in line to book!

An Amazing Whisky Adventure from Start to Finish
An Amazing Whisky Adventure from Start to Finish The trip was outstanding from the moment we boarded the bus. The group was incredibly friendly, which is exactly what you would expect from fellow whisky enthusiasts !! Our guide, Jamie, brought the journey from Edinburgh to Islay to life. Along the way, he shared fascinating stories about the history, battles, folklore, and myths of the regions we passed through, making the travel experience just as enjoyable as the destinations themselves. The whisky tastings began in Oban, a beautiful and picturesque seaside town. The stunning coastal scenery continued throughout Islay, with each distillery offering breathtaking views overlooking the sea. Our accommodation at Bowmore House exceeded expectations. Hosts Andrew and Alison seamlessly picked up where Jamie left off, sharing a wealth of local knowledge each morning over a fantastic full Scottish breakfast. They also introduced us to the concept of a “breakfast dram,” complete with practical demonstrations! The entire five-day itinerary was exceptionally well planned. Each day offered something different, and the whisky tastings far surpassed my expectations, both in quality and quantity. If you enjoy Islay whiskies, this tour is an absolute must. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable whisky experience

An unforgettable experience in whisky paradise!
A truly wonderful experience touring Islay and all of the peaty (and some unpeated) delights that the island has to offer! The group was made up of lovely and friendly people, from a diverse range of backgrounds, and the accommodation, Bowmore House, was wonderful - did someone say "whisky for breakfast"? The trip was, of course, centred around whisky, and the distillery visits and tastings were an absolute joy. Many drams were drunk, and each experience was exceptional. We are grateful to all of the staff who supported and guided us through the various distilleries, with our personal favourites being the warehouse tastings at Bruichladdich and Ardnahoe. We were even treated to perfect weather throughout the week which was an unexpected joy! Above all though, the trip was made extra special thanks to our guide, Jamie. He took a group of strangers that first met in Edinburgh and awkwardly followed each other around the Oban distillery, and helped turn us into an Islay-whisky-loving family who were sad to say goodbye to each other. Jamie guided us through the glorious Scottish Highlands, and onto Islay, with well-told stories which were as witty as they were informative. The accompanying playlist perfectly matched the anecdotes. He was a welcoming and friendly host, and clearly proud to guide us through his beloved Scotland. He never missed a beat, and kept us on track with grace, humour and impeccable professionalism. He was an integral part of the experience, and truly brought the group together. This was perfectly exemplified by his impromptu suggestion that we take in a visit to Ardbeg House following our final distillery experience - this was a perfectly apt way for the group to, one last time, come together for the love of whisky! Overall, it was a brilliant experience and we were blown away by the trip. We cannot recommend this enough and we would all join again without hesitation.

A Glorious 5 Days
I wasn’t sure what to expect, hoped for a good week away with some whisky. But it ended up being so much more. We’ve met a group of funny, bright and friendly people. The accommodation (including breakfast drams!) was great. But especially memorable has been the gracious guiding by Jamie, who tied it all together with whit, anecdotes and a perfect soundtrack. And of course the whisky. Lots and lots of lovely whiskey…

5 Day Islay Whisky Tour from Edinburgh: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Edinburgh.
How much does 5 Day Islay Whisky Tour from Edinburgh cost?
+
Prices start at $1,902 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Edinburgh usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does 5 Day Islay Whisky Tour from Edinburgh take?
+
Plan for about 120 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Edinburgh is not rushed.
Is 5 Day Islay Whisky Tour from Edinburgh worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 25 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Edinburgh, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule 5 Day Islay Whisky Tour from Edinburgh?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is 5 Day Islay Whisky Tour from Edinburgh suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 120-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book 5 Day Islay Whisky Tour from Edinburgh?
+
Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Edinburgh can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Edinburgh and add a light layer if any part of the 120-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does 5 Day Islay Whisky Tour from Edinburgh start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Edinburgh within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Edinburgh?
+
On Outty we rank every Edinburgh experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Chocolatarium Chocolate Tour Experience in Edinburgh, The Mountebank Comedy Walk of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Old Town: Historical Guided Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Edinburgh?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Edinburgh?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
What happens to 5 Day Islay Whisky Tour from Edinburgh if the weather is bad?
+
It generally runs rain or shine, so dress for the forecast in Edinburgh. Standard cancellation terms apply.
What do travelers say about 5 Day Islay Whisky Tour from Edinburgh?
+
Across 25 reviews averaging 5.0 out of 5, recurring themes include the guide, knowledge and storytelling, food and drink. Travelers single out the guide as the reason the experience works.
