bike stolen, not insured
I rented a bike for 24 hours from these guys, which unfortunately was stolen when it was left outside my apartment overnight, locked to a light pole with the provided cable lock. I ended up having to pay for the bike. They were not very helpful, saying, 'You should have taken it inside; every bike will be stolen in a minute if left outside, as is the case everywhere in Europe.' Well, I’ve never had this problem anywhere else. They said it is not their fault, which it obviously is not. However, I think they could have mentioned the crime rate; it wouldn't have been a problem for me to return the bike the evening before. I just kept it for convenience. Additionally, it would not have been possible to place it inside the apartment I rented. Furthermore, the provided cable lock is obviously not sufficient; it might be less of a problem with a proper lock. Also, shouldn’t you be insured for theft if it is such a problem? Provided such insurance is available in Portugal, but I assume it is. This could have easily been a more customer-friendly experience, but oh well. Other than that, the bike was decent. It seemed well maintained, and the brakes and gears worked well. They offered a helmet, which I declined since it is not mandatory in Portugal. The price seemed comparable to what I saw elsewhere in the city, I reckon it is alright for 24 hours. Beware, the bike comes with no lights, and Porto is actually not a bike-friendly city at all.
Response from the operator: Hello, Jonas, We’re very sorry about what happened during your rental, and we completely understand the frustration of having a bicycle stolen, even when it was locked. The safety of our customers and our equipment is extremely important to us. That’s why we always provide a lock with each bike. Unfortunately, in some cities like Porto, thefts can still happen even with some level of protection — something that also concerns us. We appreciate your feedback, as it highlights important points where we can improve. We agree that clearer communication about the risks of leaving the bike outside overnight could have helped avoid the situation. We usually mention this when customers let us know they’ll be renting for 24 hours, but we’ll consider making this advice a standard part of future handovers. Regarding insurance, it’s still uncommon or difficult to find insurance included in short- or long-term rentals in Portugal. However, we are currently evaluating providers that offer such options. We’re glad that despite the incident, you acknowledged the bike’s quality and the fair price. We also appreciate your comments on the equipment (such as the lights) and the overall experience in the city. If you ever return to Porto, we’d be happy to welcome you again and provide a more positive experience. Best regards, Northroad

Weekend in Porto
Really good value. Helpful staff. Rode all the way to Matosinhos then back to Porto and beyond to see the bridges. Stopped along the way for coffee

Good service and cheap trekking bikes for a trundle along the coast
We rented bikes and cycled 70 miles over 2 days whilst in Porto. The rental is straightforward, and the guys are friendly and helpful. I think this is the first place ever that I've experienced rental charges based upon how long you are out for. Both days we were out for 6 hours approx, so you get charged for that, rather than a 1 day rental. Brilliant 👏. This meant 10 euros per bike, each day. Love it 😀. The bikes are not high spec, but good enough for what we wanted. Definitely recommend.
Response from the operator: Thanks for the evaluation! We look forward to welcome you again as soon as possible! Best regards,

Why this scores 65
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
24 hour bicycle rental: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Porto.
How much does 24 hour bicycle rental cost?
+
Prices start at $12 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Porto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does 24 hour bicycle rental take?
+
Plan for about 24 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Porto is not rushed.
Is 24 hour bicycle rental worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 33 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Porto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule 24 hour bicycle rental?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is 24 hour bicycle rental suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 24-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book 24 hour bicycle rental?
+
Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Porto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Porto and add a light layer if any part of the 24-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does 24 hour bicycle rental start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Porto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Porto?
+
On Outty we rank every Porto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Unvanquished Tour in Porto City Center, Porto's #1 Walking Tour, Small Group Geres National Park Full Day with picnic from Porto. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Porto?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Porto?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
