Really great experience - LOTS of sea lions, great guide
The two hours on the water with our guide, Elvis (actual name he uses) was even much better than expected. We thought we’d have a good time kayaking around, but he took us to all the places where he knew the sea lions hung out. We got close to several individuals and groups. They were so entertaining. He also stopped a few times to help pelicans that had gotten caught up with fish hooks or lines. That was cool to see as well.

Good communication for directions and meet up. Our guide, Elvis, was so friendly and knowledgable. We saw lots of sea lions and sea birds and boats. Would highly recommend for a relaxing SoCal outdoor activity.

Save your money
It’s not at all worth the money. This more of a self guided tour rather than tour guided. I was hoping for some history or some fun facts. We saw very few sea lions and they were just sleeping on the back of boats. This booking made it seem like we would be interacting with the animals or they would come close to us. We were only on the water for 1 hour. Very disappointing.
Response from the operator: We’re sorry the experience did not meet your personal expectations, but we would like to clarify that this is a responsible wildlife-viewing experience - not a zoo or an animal encounter. Sea lions are wild animals, so their location, behaviour, and level of activity can never be guaranteed. Approaching, touching, feeding, chasing, or otherwise disturbing them is neither appropriate nor permitted. We respect the animals and always observe them responsibly from a safe distance. Nowhere in our listing do we promise that guests will interact or play with sea lions, or that the animals will approach the kayaks. Interestingly, another guest from the same group left a five-star review describing the guide as excellent, noting that they saw multiple sea lions, including families, took excellent photos, and had a great time. This demonstrates how differently guests may perceive the very same experience. We are sorry that you were expecting a closer animal encounter, but that is not something an ethical wildlife tour can or should promise. We strongly encourage guests to read the full experience description before booking to ensure that the activity matches their expectations.

2-Hour Kayak or Paddleboard with Sea Lions in Marina del Rey: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Santa Monica.
How much does 2-Hour Kayak or Paddleboard with Sea Lions in Marina del Rey cost?
+
Prices start at $79 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Santa Monica usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does 2-Hour Kayak or Paddleboard with Sea Lions in Marina del Rey take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Santa Monica is not rushed.
Is 2-Hour Kayak or Paddleboard with Sea Lions in Marina del Rey worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 65 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Santa Monica, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule 2-Hour Kayak or Paddleboard with Sea Lions in Marina del Rey?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is 2-Hour Kayak or Paddleboard with Sea Lions in Marina del Rey suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book 2-Hour Kayak or Paddleboard with Sea Lions in Marina del Rey?
+
Around 23 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Santa Monica can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Santa Monica and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does 2-Hour Kayak or Paddleboard with Sea Lions in Marina del Rey start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Santa Monica within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Santa Monica?
+
Santa Monica is where most LA coast tours start: beach bike and e-bike rides to Venice, surf lessons, food walks on Third Street and open-top runs up Pacific Coast Highway. On Outty we rank every Santa Monica experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Los Angeles Guided City Tour with 4 Stops and Free Time, Half Day Best of Los Angeles City Tour from Santa Monica, Hollywood, Beverly Hills & Celebrity Homes Tour by Open Air Bus. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Santa Monica?
+
March to May and September to November, dodging the June marine layer. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Santa Monica?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
