    Great for families!

We had a wonderful experience with Kapowui Surfing Lessons in Santa Monica! We booked a 2-hour private lesson for our 14-year-old daughter with Nick B. Our daughter is autistic and can become frustrated quickly when learning new skills, but Nick was patient and made sure she had fun. He spent about 90 minutes working one-on-one with her. Seeing her confidence grow in such a short time was amazing. When our older daughter decided she had enough for the day, Nick used the remaining time to give our 10-year-old daughter a mini lesson. She absolutely loved it! Both girls had a wondeful experience and a lot of fun learning to surf. We also added photography with Marjan, and we're so glad we did. She was incredibly kind, supportive, and wonderful to work with throughout the lesson. She captured some great photos, including smiles and bloopers! The photos are absolutely beautiful, and I can't wait to frame my favorites. Thank you, Nick and Marjan, for creating such a positive, inclusive, and unforgettable experience for our family. We highly recommend Kapowui to anyone looking to learn to surf, especially families with children who may need a little extra patience and encouragement. We can't wait to come back! @kapowui1 @marjan4u

    Almost literally walking on air

A 2hr lesson where at least 50% of the waves were way above my very basic level (and only a few others even trying on the whole stretch of beach). But got the patience, advice and inspiration to stay on and eventually complete a full ride from a way out all the way on up to the beach that was topped off with some claps from some passers-by and the instructor giving the surfers thumb/finger wave thing 🤙. It was over a month ago and I’m still riding high. Thanks Kapowui.

THE place in LA to try surfing

Fun Surf LA is all-around great. Our instructor Fernando was outstanding. His passion for surfing came through in everything he did, and he communicated all the key points in clear, easy-to-understand terms. The instructional portion of the lesson was fast-paced, but not overwhelming. And once we got in the water, he was the perfect mentor. He knew when to step in and when to hang back -- he was as good at reading his students as he was at reading the waves. We were a group of 3 beginners -- two adults and one 17-year-old -- and we all stood up at least a couple times by the end of the lesson. All 3 of us left feeling like we wanted to go surfing again as soon as possible. We’re hooked -- thank you so much, Francisco! We would recommend anyone who wants to try surfing for the first time, or anyone wishing to brush up their skills, to do it through Fun Surf LA. Our entire experience was great. I booked the lesson at the last minute without carefully reading the "at least 24 hours in advance" policy. Actually, we were too late to take a lesson the following morning. But when I called that day, the person I spoke with was extremely helpful and accommodating. They found several slots for us and gave us options with the minimum of hassle. It was clear they wanted us to have a good time. Can’t recommend Fun Surf LA highly enough. Thank you!

2-Hour Surf Lesson in Santa Monica: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Santa Monica.

How much does 2-Hour Surf Lesson in Santa Monica cost?

    +

Prices start at $145 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Santa Monica usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 2-Hour Surf Lesson in Santa Monica take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Santa Monica is not rushed.

Is 2-Hour Surf Lesson in Santa Monica worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 96 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Santa Monica, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 2-Hour Surf Lesson in Santa Monica?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 2-Hour Surf Lesson in Santa Monica suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book 2-Hour Surf Lesson in Santa Monica?

    +

Around 34 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Santa Monica can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Santa Monica and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 2-Hour Surf Lesson in Santa Monica start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Santa Monica within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Santa Monica?

    +

Santa Monica is where most LA coast tours start: beach bike and e-bike rides to Venice, surf lessons, food walks on Third Street and open-top runs up Pacific Coast Highway. On Outty we rank every Santa Monica experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Los Angeles Guided City Tour with 4 Stops and Free Time, Half Day Best of Los Angeles City Tour from Santa Monica, Hollywood, Beverly Hills & Celebrity Homes Tour by Open Air Bus. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Santa Monica?

    +

March to May and September to November, dodging the June marine layer. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Santa Monica?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
