Bayon Temple
Mahayana Buddhist temple Bayon locates in the centre of Angkor Thom, the capital city turned into a safer heaven by erecting fortified walls and large moat around it. Jayavarman VII placed his kingdom under the protection of Buddha, whose statue was place in the central shrine of the temple, of the Budhisattva Lokeshvara whose features are represented on face-towers of the temple, covering the cardinal directions, thus extending the compassion of the king and a god he identified with over entire kingdom. Bayon is the last complex temple built by the Khmer king, it is smaller than Angkor Wat but the smiling faces, carvings, the bas-reliefs of this temple are greatest!

Unforgettable Day Exploring Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm & Bayon
Our one-day trip through the temples of Angkor was absolutely unforgettable! We started early with a breathtaking sunrise at Angkor Wat - the colors reflecting off the towers were truly magical and worth the early wake-up call. Next, we explored Ta Prohm, and it felt like stepping into another world. The temple is intertwined with giant tree roots and surrounded by forest, creating a mysterious, almost mystical atmosphere. It was also noticeably cooler there, which gave us a much-needed energy boost after the morning heat. We ended the day at Bayon, famous for its serene stone faces - such an iconic and peaceful place. Standing among those smiling carvings was the perfect way to close the day. We didn't encounter any queues and never had to wait more than a few seconds to be able to take unobstructed photos. A huge shoutout to our guide, Bunleat, who made the whole experience so special. He was super friendly, funny, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating stories, historical and philosophical insights, and even the best photo spots. If you only have one day to experience Angkor’s magic, this is the perfect way to do it! Highly recommended!
